I heard notices went out today to everyone 55 or older in Germany. Voluntary of course with much nicer packages than we got in NA.

Is this valid and verified? If you are say 49 and want to voluntarily resign in Germany you will get 1.5 months per year?
Every country has its own laws, regulations and so on. For the same job the salary is different - US even by state or city. You can not compare anything.
That is called international business. You buy shirts cheep in Vietman, Pakistan - the employees do not get enough money to have a good life.
What to do? That is capitalismn.
Buy goods as cheap as possible whereever on the world and sell them at the highest possible price. Unfortunately there is a big number of humans being the looser in this "game" but that is the way a majority in the US/Europe/... of wants to have it. Of course there are other systems in Russia and China playing with different rules.
In Germany there have been hard fights to weaken the capitalismn. Work unions have been created to protect employees to same extend more than 100 years ago. In the US that is different. In GB the government has tried to break the overwelming power of the work unions.

Sorry... you Germans just need to stop... especially while people elsewhere in the world actually experienced a "turn" that wasn't all that great.
Notices were sent out today to everyone, not only to the ones over 55. VERP is for those 55 or above, voluntary for everyone else. The packe is huge, roughly 1.5 monthly salary per year of service.
