Thread regarding Optum layoffs

What is going on?

You don’t hear about any talk of layoffs I asked my manager with things that were changing? anything going on? Should we be concerned? no response. So much for transparency. Obvious people are gone emails have no out of office replies wondering what my future state is here at the company. Employee survey is coming out soon. I would highly recommend that people voice concerns, their opinions and address that this is something that this needs to be talked about. It’s not a secret we all know what’s going on and we all deserve to have answers and what our future in this company is. PS don’t forget to contribute to your employee stock purchase plan ;)

With layoffs looming im watching for new jobs. I want out of my department and have several internal applications out, live in MN. Has anyone gone through an internal transfer since this new law where they can't take previous salary into account for your offer? Recruiter seems to be very aware of my current salary and making low balled offer accordingly.

They don’t talk about it. It’s like it never happened. On projects, half the time the staff doesn’t even realize that key personnel have been RIF’d until they start asking weeks later why they haven’t heard from them.

Best just to ignore all the town halls surveys etc. Easier to have peace of mind when you just dont care do the minimum in your direct world. I get passed around like the town bike and every new "manager" when they get around to introducing themselves i take control. Respect is not given just because you have a title you start at zero and have to earn points with me. Dont you dare micromanage me or I am out the door. I have done this function for a decade you have no clue you never will so just sit tight until I get moved again in 6 to 12 mos. I can be your friend or your enemy choose wisely you wont like it if you dont. This strategy has worked out fabulously for quite some time since most are insecure and I reversed the fear game. They cave like a house of cards.

Ditto on the original poster, another person who can “see” the toxic culture here. There is no transparency in many departments here and they hire sheep leadership who will follow the leader. Lest not forget the employee survey, which are completely ignored. Meaning, leaders here who have constant low ratings, year after year, are still here running the show, doing the same song and dance. Honestly, it appears that some “leadership” here, must have blackmail info on upper leadership, truly baffling on how their ineptitude continues to be justified year after year. Toxicity is upstream and downstream at this point. Names of certain ineptitude “leaders” will soon be revealed here.

Layoffs have never been foreshadowed directly. They don't like to talk about them before or after. Usually chalked up to "business necessity due to the ever-changing needs of the 'U.S. Healthcare System'" or the need to be "good stewards of our customer's money."

From what I understand, this is the Optum way. Transparency is not a characteristic of this organization.

ESOP used to be a good deal 15% discount off the lowest price of the buy period. was like printing money then of course some MBA saw hey money on the table. No lookback and only 10% discount. No upside in that trade
