Higher Ed decimated most support roles: customer success, digital success, and other sales support positions. At least 1 district manager was let go despite have top performing sales numbers nationally.

"the real question is does anybody believe these Glass Door Ratings as anything but HR nonsense?"
Potential employees. Which was entirely the point of that silly exercise.
@1cqm+1scO526a, the real question is does anybody believe these Glass Door Ratings as anything but HR nonsense? That these awards are touted by the C-suite while most of us thought that Project Horizon was over until this latest slashing. The engagement! The ethos! The fix is in.
Really sorry for everyone affected by these latest layoffs. Those who were let go and those who will have to take on more work. Hoping for better opportunities for everyone in the future.
Knowledge worker=hundreds of thousands of Indian PhD's waiting to work for $10 a day.
"Leadership has all but outright stated the migration to offshore labor will continue, they just need to phase out domestic workers at intervals. I would definitely set the expectation that if you are reading this, prepare to be laid off by next Spring."
Sounds like we were in the same meeting today!
Wait. Didn’t Cengage win employee choice awards in 2019, 2023 and 2024 as a Best Place to Work? Will anyone be around to vote in 2025?
Leadership has all but outright stated the migration to offshore labor will continue, they just need to phase out domestic workers at intervals. I would definitely set the expectation that if you are reading this, prepare to be laid off by next Spring.
Are there any sycophants left to post Glassdoor reviews that read "what I love most is that Cengage and its CEO really care about the people who work here!"
"Wow, IPS was on the money again with the offsourcing. I did not get cut but it seems like a lot are. Is IPS the CEO or just a high up person?"
LOL, IPS is like me - a former Cengager who knows how to read a financial report. Once you've worked at a company for a couple of decades, you get to know how to read the tea leaves.
Honestly the whole tenure thing was not a smart move for them. Most of the employees that I worked with who had more tenure did WAY less. Paying more to tenure who do less work vs. keeping the ones with better productivity rates who were getting paid less. NOT LOGICAL in any shape or form.

SX extended shift had cuts yesterday. They are completely eliminating the 6-2 shift and have moved most from that shift to 11-7. Two were laid off from the 6-2 shift. Based off what has been said they will eventually get rid of the 4-12. Sadly, the people who cannot manage an 11-7 shift will end up having to lose their job as well. Get out while you can. They are contracting most of the CS roles overseas. If you were one of the lucky ones that kept your job, remember this, Paco from Saudi Arabia can take your job at any moment. Severance is NOT guaranteed. And you are just a number to Cengage. It does not matter how hard you work or what you put into this company because productivity DOES not matter.
Gale has been a joke since, well, forever.
When will we be sold / go public? I don’t know how many more rounds of layoffs I can stick around for . Its a horrible feeling to be looking over your shoulder this long
What is Gale even? It was just a company that seemed to illegally compile collections of readings from books and poems. I know someone who worked at Cengage and had to work with Gale and it was a nightmare for them. Customers constantly saying that they were getting the wrong readings. Long, confusing URLs in the middle of web pages that lead to 404s. Entire deals with schools that had been in place for decades for this thrown to the god damn fu--ing wind because some a--hole at this company demanded we utilize their copy/paste product.
How large is Gale anyway. 50 jobs seems like a lot.
Reminder that private equity is cancer.
About 4 dozen layoffs across Gale this morning.
Not sure if allowed to share names here, all I can say is the email stated that 5 DPM roles are terminated. The email also mentioned:
"As we continue to look for ways to increase our capacity, scalability, and support of the content production needs of other Cengage businesses, we will further refine our operating model and evolve our teams’ roles." aka we will continue terminating roles..
Post the entire email I want to read it
Received the "Digital Delivery Team Updates" email.
Yup. My turn today.
Any news on the Gale staff in CA all working from home for the past few years?
"There’s an all team meeting in 30 minutes for Content Creation and Digital Production"
Please let us know what was shared in this meeting. I didn't receive this email.
"Many let go and others moved into those new roles."
That happened in CA in Feb, some Content Managers were laid off and few transitioned to LD roles just in time. I know of at least three people in higher up who left the company with 20+ years at Cengage. They probably knew about all these layoffs.
Eliminating positions and forming new ones. Many let go and others moved into those new roles.
The SX Team is impacted the most today. Many positions eliminated.
Sales impacts are happening today across all divisions. Latin America Sales team was laid off yesterday.
There’s an all team meeting in 30 minutes for Content Creation and Digital Production that was just put on our calendars. I guess their about yo break the news that ppl have been laid off
They laid off everyone that had a work from home contract as far as I can tell. Just heard from someone from Boston who told me his entire team was laid off. For reference this person worked on World Languages and was with the company for 20+ years. No severance, no good luck
To those who responded, could you kindly share more information here? Any information is appreciated! Some of us are kept completely in the dark unfortunately..
Yes
Yes, a metric fu-kton went out at about 10 EST across the board.
