Thread regarding Optum layoffs

AW throws Change employees under the bus

On the Q1 Investor Call AW says America and Change are lucky UHG that UHG bought Change, because otherwise CHC would have basically been destroyed and unable to recover.

tldr;
AW: "You d-mb*sses are lucky we own you or you'd be toast. p.s. not UHG's fault Change got hacked"

AW verbatim:
"Roger, thanks so much. And yeah, absolutely, Change Healthcare, the important acquisition for the group and I think important for the country that we own Change Healthcare. Without UnitedHealth Group owning Change Healthcare, this attack would likely still have happened and it would have -- it would have left Change Healthcare, I think, extremely challenged to come back because it was a part of UnitedHealth Group, we've been able to bring it back" - AW

Optum started weakening CHC InfoSec from day one. They were very antagonistic about it and seemed to be looking for reasons to fire personnel. One example are the pentests they knew would fail. They created situations where they would then have "cause" to start dismantling CHC security. It is not surprising in the least that a "breach" followed, but I maintain that this was all planned, including collusion with the hacking group, by Optum executive leadership. They wanted the data, they got it. They did not want everything else and have been systematically lopping it off in chunks.

AW: "....Without UnitedHealth Group owning Change Healthcare, this attack would likely still have happened....."

Well if UHG/Optum EIS and everyone who desperately needs a CISO title and VP of security or security officer would have done their job during the M&A control gaps would have been known, documented and part of the risk register. This is what happens when people have a top-heavy organization with a legacy of grifters left from the Robert Booker and Jairo Orea era of hiring incompetent people like Erik Montes de Oca Contreras who was working M&A using the worst assessment documentation.

How many CISOs and VPs of Security does a company need?

Change Healthcare did not need UHG. Go to the justice dept investigation and read. UHG wanted Change because they were the number one clearing house in the US for most providers and they also had automated systems for authorizations. No one likes Optum. So UHG found a weakness in the company and exploited the fact that leaders had borrowed 450 million in loans and they the snakes UHC saw an opportunity to go in and offer to buy the company. Change made billions. What the company did not know is UHG was going to pay them the money plus pay off the loans and than recoup the cash , the 450 mil by laying off the very employees that made the company successful. The whole justice dept case is on line.

100% accurate. No company should agree to be acquired by UHC ever. Any person with eyes / ears can tell you it'll be the death of your organization. All of your beloved teams will suffer and be let go within 12-24 months.

Blame storm on CHG is the MO of snake salesman.
The lack of due due diligence before/during/after land squarely on the top guys shoulder. Do you buy a house without inspection for security breach? You wait till security breach occurred to pat yourself on the shouider- yeah we got robbed it’s not our fault. We saved the previous owners from being robbed .. 🤣🤣🤣

Be honest about the facts. Change could not have managed this on their own. UHG DID save them and has to bear the bad sh-t that goes along with it. Being a large org of 440k has many downsides, but this certainly was not one.

Optum always devours acquisitions and cherry picks what they want usually throws out most. These arrogant change people director on up are in for a rude awakening. They all on death row. This hack just accelerated the process that would eventually happen down the road.

Change employees had 2 weeks paid off due to their leadership being lax on security protocols while others at Optum had to break their backs to get their systems functioning so they would still have a job which is not their fault. But the leadership acquired from Change Healthcare is pure fu@kery and behave as if the company who acquired them and the employees already here didn’t do sh1t.
