Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Want to quit. How does it look out there?

Frankly, I hate this job and this place. Anyone can share any info on the outlook out there? Job market doesn’t look good, but that doesn’t have to mean anything in our line of work. I’m planning to scout the ground before quitting, but any info/advice from people who managed to change jobs would be appreciated.

Stick around for severance. Quiet quit, build your skills while searching for jobs. Post training courses on linked in when you finish.

I was part of the February RIF, and it took me until late April to land another role with another company. No matter what any of these reports say about the market and economy, it is an absolute cutthroat situation out here now. I know at this point it is very mentally draining to a lot of you but my honest opinion is that I would hang in there and continue to search while you’re hanging on. Corny as it may sound, the old saying “it’s easier to find a job when you already have a job” is true. And at the very least, if you end up part of a RIF, take your severance pay and unemployment (if you voluntarily quit, you will be deemed ineligible for unemployment) and take a vacation and recharge while you continue your search.

Quite a few people lining up behind the OP. United has lost all its redeeming qualities and has become a toxic cesspool. Best of luck to all of us seeking a better way to survive!

Unemployment numbers are such a meaningless metric these days, they massage the way it's calculated to make it look good. The latest jobs report is terrible as well - all the so-called gains are from low paying part time, make-work govt jobs, or health/service jobs. Decent paying full time work is way down. Go over to the layoff subreddit to get a glimpse of the microcosm of what's going on in the economy.

4% unemployment - Job hunting has always been about attitude and not accepting excuses.

I genuinely feel your sentiment! I’ve been pushed to do more work to cover roles that have been affected by the recent cuts, it’s chaotic and draining. But the market out there looks so dire! A decreasing number of openings for a growing number of candidates. Even job posts with little to no competition aren’t getting back to people (essentially ghost hiring).

The job market out here is AWFUL. As a victim of the May 2 RIF, I’ve applied to over 100 jobs at various companies and have only had one interview. I have plenty of experience and skills. What I have been told by recruiters is that they are getting thousands of applicants per job posting. Every day more employers are laying off which is adding to the candidate pool.
Do what makes you happy, but know that your short vacation may wind up being a lot longer than you anticipated.

I quit and had no other job lined up! I had all I could take and it just wasn’t with it anymore! When it gets to that point you will not care what the job market looks like. Well at least that how it went for me. I was off for about 4 months, but I didn’t mind. I cashed in my 401 K and had a mini vacation and boy am I glad I did before all that stuff happened with the hack.
