The maximum was 40 months of salary for those with 28 years of service. Although I doubt that those will be able to get a new job easily right away. At that age, getting a new job in IT in Germany is a pretty fruitless endeavor. Easier to change to gardening, street cleaning, McDonalds or such…
the works council in germany is very strong. the package available to people getting VERP is so good that they literally said people would be crazy not to take it. some people could be getting 2 years salary, and able to get another job right away. free money and a chance to exit this tech dinosaur

According to information from Handelsblatt, 5,300 employees have registered for the Dax group's severance pay and early retirement program. The deadline expired at the end of May.
