June Sales Incentives < PTG Bonus

Wow, so many incentives for stores to make sales plan this month. Maybe this mad scramble for motivating colleagues to sell wouldn't be necessary if the company hadn't cut the PTG bonus down so far that it is almost worthless. We used to talk about making the bonus at every morning rally, but now that it's worth just 15 cents an hour, our store manager is too ashamed to even mention the mere pittance.

Last year we were able to make up to an extra 50 cents for every hour worked in a quarter and now the most we can make is 15 cents and it only gets paid every six months. In the past, we could have a bad six months and still make bonus for a quarter. The company cut the max payout by 70% for hourly colleagues and reduced the payout frequency. How disappointing, but I hear salaried executive bonuses are looking real good this year. Good luck with the incentives so the stores can have more pizza parties, what a great way to support the people who actually work with the customers.

Our store is a free for all. We are down to just two CXM's and one is out on LOA and the other spends all of her time working on event planning. We had food trucks, DJ's, and popcorn machines last weekend and dropped 20% to plan.

What we didn't have was enough managers to help with customer issues or coach colleagues. Our CXM spent most of the day outside working with the food trucks, working the popcorn machine, helping setup and take down the DJ, and other event stuff.

What a circus, all we need now is a flashing blue light we can push around the store to let customers know about our specials.

The emphasis seems to be on individual sales goals, presumably to achieve store sales goal. Ignore individual sales goals. Macys tried this in 2011 and it failed. Lost a lot of good people due to the pressure being applied to the "scorecard". Associates were getting $60K of pressure for basically minimum wage. If you are not in a commission department (most are not), the sales goals just equate to register time. You are just clerking, not selling. This leads to messier stores and infighting between sales associates for register time. The managers don't have time to police the situation. Don't buy into the propaganda. The new id--t CEO only cares about himself. He only has no ideas and bad ideas. If everyone does their job, the store sales will take care of itself. Remember, you can flip burgers at McD's for basically the same money

Nobody at our store even knows that there is still a PTG bonus. I asked about it after seeing this post and was told it existed but our store wasn't going to make it due to bad profit and low service scores.

This all about getting the company to look good to sell.
