It is always 2 levels up from you that drop the hammer. Your direct manger is never the one relaying the bad news they are not permitted to speak during the process. Usually 2nd level manager and some HR person take turns with the see ya speech. Your direct manager gets to heavy breathe on the phone. Most of the time direct manager in the dark just like you until the final meeting pops up. I have experienced where direct and 2nd level manager both zapped same round. then when i got survivor meeting invite for early afternoon had to look up name of person requesting meeting since did not know them from adam
My manager read the writing on the wall and gave me a heads up months back. Also was kept abreast of potential notification once more was determined. Seems within UHC E&I this Thursday 6/26/24 will be a notification date. I’m fortunate to have had a heads up but good luck to those who were in the dark.
I knew a few weeks in advance and got to make recommendations on who should go and stay on my team.
THURSDAYS
Who does the picking for who is going to be laid off? I never worked w/ my director who called me to tell me I was being laid off. My direct manager was new to dept and didnt know anyone on the team.
We had one last year that managers knew the day before, but didn’t know who until the day of.
They learn ahead of time. Quite often they get the opportunity to weigh in on who is impacted.
They learn when they get invites to a meetings with hr and the head chopper. Then they get to sit like a bump on a log while team dismantled before their eyes. After that they may get terminated or if lucky stay for another check
