Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Get out before it's too late

Unless you're at the end of your career and resting and vesting, get out of there before it's too late.

Those who have moved on have not looked back. Tech should be an exciting industry to work in, Broadcom su-ks out that excitement.

Move on before it's too late and you become employable because of Broadcoms reputation, idle skill set and lack of activities and initiatives you can speak about for future companies and roles.

Go out there and find something exciting, even if it doesn't work out, it will still be better than staying at Broadcom.

You won't regret it

Those who have moved on took a huge salary reduction and less RSUs. Ride this out until the end.

“ Having Broadcom on your CV is not like having Google or MSFT on it. It is a 3rd rate software company at best. Go convince a Google employee to join Broadcom willingly”

  1. Broadcom is NOT a software company, it’s a hardware company with a software division
  2. Call it what you want but it’s a Fortune and S&P 500 company.
  3. Having Broadcom on your resume is just as good as having VMware (although since VMware still cuts my checks they are still on mine). If a potential employer doesn’t recognize the company name, I do t want to work there.

go the way of NetWare, Arcserve and other great companies

Do you know what happened to all the employees at those companies? They continued to get paid. They paid their mortgage and went on holidays with their families. Even if the companies fell out of favor, they kept a steady job. And that is good enough for most.

VMware is a dead technology and will go the way of NetWare, Arcserve and other great companies the Broadcom sc--wed up as well. Leave this worthless company and don't look back.

50k in RSUs every quarter.

Sure you do. The actual average is closer to $40k per year, per BC filing docs.

You stay even if it su-ks. I'm not walking away from 50k in RSUs every quarter.

I think group culture really dictates your experience working at Broadcom. If your group culture is healthy, seems like a good idea to stay and collect the RSUs while AI is booming.

Like what OP said. Stay if you are ok with your career (cruising or waiting to retire) and just wanna collect the rsu( provided you keep your job). However, if you are young, it’s best to move on, nothing special or ground breaking is gonna happen on the software side

I came over to Broadcom from CA and I’m so glad I stayed.

Once my RSU vesting schedules started to stack I’m not making more than triple what I was making at CA (obviously varies on avgo stock price).

Broadcom is a juggernaut and I’m riding this wave as long as I can.

This is absolutely wrong. Don't make things up. We understand that you don't like it, but that is a "you problem".

The market is incredibly hard right now. Many laid off in Nov are still searching, not to mention those laid off in Feb.

Teams were rearranged. Priorities shifted. I stayed and saw my day to day workload drop by half. Pressure is off. Just show up, do what is expected of you, and vest RSUs. Good total comp for less work.

I've personally seen many people try to come back. Those who chose to leave realized there was a one-year wait to be allowed back and not pay back severance. They're willing to wait it out and try back at end of year.

If people don’t like working for Broadcom, please leave. Thank you!

If EUC is career ending, what’s make you think vsphere is also not a dinasour and vmware ending up like CA? You think hock will innovate? … at least EUC has a shot, while Hock is just out to milk vsphere.

AVGO is S**t show where micro managers rule and destroy culture. Only reason to stay is their stock price, rest everything su-ks. He-l as Bronx, NY.

Ditto for those EUC employees who transferred to the other career-ending private equity firm, KKR's Omnissa as the final resting place for VMware's remaining obsolete software.
