Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Forced Retirements?

So is Cengage forcing retirements on employees? I work with this guy that retired about a week ago. Total yes man. Loved Cengage and it didn’t sound like he wanted to leave per his email. I responded to his email and asked why he was retiring so early, and didn’t get any response.

Are there any advantages to Cengage if they force a retirement vs a layoff? Wouldn't this open them up to an age discrimination lawsuit?

Older employees have certainly been let go but often at the same time as younger ones are, so - theoretically - no ageism.

what’s the difference between forced retirement and just getting laid off?

I know that they basically bombard any “dinosaur” content and project managers with peer reviews, which almost always come back negative. There was one person who I remember (KSB) who couldn’t/wouldn’t do anything when it came to whatever their job is. Couldn’t even use a computer or share their screen on Zoom.

If you are over 60 Cengage and your manager doesn’t like you, they will make sure you are put through the wringer!!!
