They'll just PiP you or figure out how to kick you out. Not worth it. Make them have the hard conversation with you, and make them pay your severance (however miserly it might be).
This has been asked many times, and don't listen to that first comment: there is definitely harm in volunteering to be laid off. If you VOLUNTEER, and there is evidence that you volunteered, you may not be eligible for unemployment in your state or region. You need to look into this before you put yourself in a position to suffer greater loss
You should definitely ask! I don't see the harm in it tbh. In fact, maybe you should Slack message Paul and let him know that you're up for it.
