Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Change Healthcare - on the Chopping Block?

Last week was a sad week - The cherry picking has begun.
The Lord & Masters of UHG have begun to gut the Company f/k/a Change Healthcare. They can blame it on the incident, yet the incident would not have happened had they chosen to spend their money wisely and invest in the infrastructure. They did not due to greed and not wanting to spend.

The hearings on the Hill gave rise to the revisiting of Anti-Trust. The DoJ lost its own case paving the way for UHG to acquire the company and the data. While the govt may now revisit and re-open the probe (since the incident brought down the healthcare system), it no longer matters for Change Healthcare. Too little too late as they got the data they set out to get for their competitive advantage.

UHG didn't invest in Change Healthcare for its products, talented people, competitive advantage, and good name (which they have smeared), they simply wanted to get their hands clearinghouse data to stamp out their competition. The data is now everywhere.

Change Healthcare employees are paying the price for the UHG greed. Massive layoffs, and the dumping of complete business units and products (UHG don't to invest in the products to bring them back up; they are so big they don't care about losing customers), along with the leaders and very talented, knowledgeable employees has begun and will continue.

So pathetic.

Perhaps you don't understand the impetus for cyber criminals and ransomware.
If CHC had not been acquired by UHG, then the attack would have been on UHG since they have way more sensitive data, $$, etc -

The Cyber criminals go where the money is - the larger the company, the more data they have...and the more $$$$ they can be held captive for in the form of ransom. It's simple dollars and cents.

UHG is complicit in not investing in infrastructure; this is not news. They knew they needed to invest in hardening the systems but they chose not to do so. That is the long and short of it so now they pay the price.

For CHC folks, it is unfortunate as UHG will continue to lay off, the main reason UHG wanted to purchase CHC was data driven not business driven - it was so they could obtain the clearinghouse data of competitors. That's what they were after. Once they had that, they had no other interest in CHC or their products. TRUTH!!

So, somehow CHC’s pathetic infrastructure was the fault of UHG? Those systems were ancient and CHC never did anything to update them in the years and decades before the acquisition. That acquisition should never have happened, and without which, CHC would have ceased to exist as of February 21st.

So lovely that whining people don’t fully research before they start with grievances. This whole debacle is frustrating but do your research in detail before spouting some unfounded opinions that you try to pass off for truths. This is especially true when you are idolizing a business that was hacked due their lack of security because they relied on being bought by a larger company. Also in their SEC filings lied about the security of their company. While the acquisition should never have been approved CHC did nothing to protect their employees because they were already in financial trouble and it was a matter of time anyway.

If critical thinking is part of his JD, it’s an obvious bad hire by the Bo$rd! Who in the right mind would agree to pay ransomes without basic knowledge of stolen data can be replicated multiple times? Perhaps AW has gotten away with his MO from previous employer and feeling invincible?! Karma is a b$tch came too late too little! No accountability from this cr$m$nal should had been prosecuted long before!!

Not investing in infrastructure is a well-known staple at United Health Group. They have a track record of saying no to necessary system upgrades and fixes. That’s why some of those systems have been around for 20 + years and held together by duck tape.
