Do you see it as a demotion or as a positive? My boss is a new IC and in radio fashion he’s moved on. Can’t even see his calendar any more.
Dont think he’s particularly upset though..

Removing the leadership component is a demotion. Some SVPs are horrible managers and the reorg should have been the opportunity to correct those mistakes. But the effective SVP people managers should not be put in this emabarrassing situation
of pseudo leadership. This is a blunder on senior leadership's part. Some Ds and MDs need to be ICs as they are terrible leaders.
Well you can only move around if you aren't a telecommuter. Like a lot of employees I am telecommuter due to a site closure. As a result I am unable to post for any role in the company. Another "thank you for your service" from Jane.
If you are a true leader, your favorites might follow you for better leadership. If you feel discomfort being demoted as Individual contributor, better move to team where you are valued as manager. Start looking in work day portal. There are so many open positions for SVP and senior roles.
What is the possibility of moving to another team or Org ?
If you feel your reports are removed, better move to other Org with your favorites following you.
1oek+1s9pCGdu I agree it’s not a demotion, but it does feel like one for anyone this happened to. Terrible for morale. Terrible for the employees résumé, etc. I want to know one benefit this gives to the employee. I would be damned if they change my reporting structure, but still had me managing people on the down low If that happens to anyone, I would make sure my year end review that I put all the information in about managing people and not getting credit for it.
I do think that this will also be an opportunity for citi to give those employees less bonuses. There is no benefit for any employees whatsoever
Its not demotion. But its a way of monitoring how critical you are for the Organization. If the job can continue without you, you are possibly the next one to show the door.
But Being an individual contributor has its own advantage. You don't have to focus on well being of your reports. You don't have to address their issues. Just focus on controlling the project.
The other challenge you face is your old long friends will be your foes now. They try to grab lots of project for themselves. You have to fight lonely. Your manager might not consider you as you are a single person and not a team to focus on.
Technically it's not a demotion. I wish people would stop calling it that. What is happening is that employees are being removed from some SVPs to satisfy the FTE requirement for D and MDs. It happened to me. When you work toward a career in management and you enjoy coaching and leading a team, it's pretty demoralizing. It also stalls your career and now you have to explain to future, potential employers how you really where a people manager but technically your people were taken away from you. There is really zero benefit to this plan. It takes teams who may have worked really well together and shuffles them for no other reason than making the org chart look better. It's impactful to the managers and employees alike. What does it say about an organization that cares more about how the org chart looks than the way teams actually perform?
I was told pay would not be impacted. I’ll hold off on considering it a demotion until I see my bonus. Being an IC is also some added pressure though, will have to step up and produce more/better than VP’s doing a similar role.
Probably so they’ll get less of a bonus
They were told nothing changed and just not showing in directory. Funny why doing this if nothing will be changed?
