my team has just been GUTTED. we had layoffs in October, layoffs again in February, and now layoffs in April. someone asked me how I was feeling. I said I feel like I'm being stalked. ...like in those psychological thrillers where you just know they're coming for you. that's how I feel 40 hours a week. revenue is up. we're breaking records. and my immediate leadership team forewent bonuses so we peons could get a pittance. I've worked for UHG for 12 years but this is just so far over the line, I feel nauseated every time I come to work. I know it's a for-profit company. I get it. but who deserves to be treated like this?

That's weird. I feel the same way. I feel like everyday they search to find something wrong with my performance. I have a strange feeling with this company that's not normal at all. It might be because they're a for profit and always on edge. They're constantly in a legal battle and the stress trickles down.
I was also laid off yesterday - after over 13 years. I knew it was coming but could not believe that it was true given that ! have been performing the function of 3 people for almost a year. The director read from the same script that was utilized when we had to lay off staff back in August - and he READ IT WORD FOR WORD! Voice shaking and fearful sounding (of what I do not know). The enviornment is toxic plain and simple. Employees hold no value and senior "leadership" appears to think we are stupid. 2 days prior to the lay offs in August they held a "Town Hall" and gave the same load of BS about "times are hard, but with continued hard work we will make it through" - and then bo-m - lay offs. This week same thing - a "Town Hall" on Tuesday and a PURGE on Thursday. Then what do we receive?? An email asking us to reach out to UHG "Talent Marketplace becuase "we are here to support you and assist in finding a position for re-deployment prior to your seperation date". Really?! Why didn't you look for alternative positions for the employees BEFORE you terminated them? And why would anyone be stupid enough to forgo their severance package to take a cut in pay, lower position only to be fired with no severance package in the next 6 months?! You really have no respect or considerations for any of your employees.
I was one of the folks they laid off today. This is after MONTHS of telling me I would NOT be cut. I'm sitting in the redeployment meeting where they are showing jobs that are 50-80% less than what they were paying us. Which is the point, I suppose. If employees were already doing the job of 2-3 people and the company still isn't making enough record profit, just downsize them and make them work positions that are a fraction of what they were being paid. After all, no one can afford to be unemployed right now, so why not exploit some workers. Ugh. Makes me sick.

I got laid off yesterday at Optum. I felt like the end if a horror movie climax happened to me. I am physically sick. My manager had made my life he-l in the past 6 weeks. What goes around come around.
