I have been thinking about applying to a few caremark positions. What is going on there? Is that area a lay off risk with Mark Cuban/Good RX making a recent impact?

Don’t apply. If you did and they offer an interview, run don’t walk. Not sure what the first reply is talking about, Caremark is the biggest gouging PBM. Federal lawsuits likely.
Caremark is a really a collection of separate companies slammed together through multiple mergers. Your experience will vary depending on the position and location.
If you have the pleasure of just working with Caremark or just with CVS, then it's OK. Some areas are actually a lot of fun. Others are tolerable or tedious. If in a call center or mail order warehouse be aware that everything is micromanaged and watched by corporate systems. Corporate is always tinkering trying to improve for better or worse.
I loathe Aetna. For profit healthcare is immoral. Companies and corporate doctors that have never seen you should not be stepping in with blanket policies that interfere with a patient and their doctor - in order to maximize profits for shareholders.
