Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Who thinks of these "solutions"?

Signal maintenance teams are being pressured to remain available for more and more overtime. These employees are burned out and do not want to work 7 days a week. Obviously there are not enough employees, shifts, jobs, etc to cover the work load. Instead of bringing back relief maintainers and shortening up territories to increase the headcount that could be available for voluntary overtime, managements idea now is too eliminate more jobs, spread the remaining employees even thinner and then taking the budget previously used on the jobs they cut off and FORCING the remaining employees to "standby" on their days off (they will get paid 8 hours straight for being forced to remain available on their days off). The problem is not having enough employees and managements solution is to have even less employees?

Who created these "solutions"? The same people who created the problems. UPs problems are self inflicted.

I think it's going to get much worse before it gets any better! Vena and his team are going to do anything to give the investors the illusion of efficiency and growth. The UP just had a two derailments in Nebraska and one in Iowa, and the 2 in Nebraska made the news. Two of those derailments were fairly large as well. Let's not forget the 42 year old track manager that was just ki-led due to the UP's push for efficiency. This is what the UP wants I guess. They want maximum profits before anything else. They do not care about how thin the workforce is spread. They will spread it as thin as possible if they can make a dollar off of it.

If there are work signal work groups getting stand by pay I'd like to know. Cause even if ONE group is getting it, we ALL should be getting it.

Shooooot I hope they bring back the stand by pay!!!! It's bull being "OFF" but not really being "OFF". It limits a lot you can be doing being on call. The stand by pay would deff help keep people on call. If they don't do stand by pay, then you check out when you want. I know we all catch he-l checking out but until they pay standby pay, not much they can do.
