Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

A Consultant's cry...

Vendor consultant at Citi laid off around Jan and on H1B visa. Despite the vast job market, I am struggling to secure interviews. Citi throwed lots of tech and business buzz words. But all are failed projects. Citi still operates on Excel sheets and meeting rooms. Outside market demands more practical experiences. Better consider retirement or return back to India if not at Citi.

Citi is so big that no one can generalize and no one can tell/know everything good or bad.

Any technology person who seriously worked on citi.com and Citi Mobile applications would have learned a lot of contemporary stuff related to cloud computing, microservices, Angular/HTML/JS/CSS, Swift, information security, performance, resiliency/high availability, etc. These skills/knowledge are in demand and only when you work in applications that handle ~70-80 millions of users then only you can appreciate the complexity and scale.

Yes not everything is good at Citi but still there are many things good and those who have focused on positives and sharpened their skills will thrive professionally, bo-m & bust are cycles and sometimes job market will be good and sometimes not.

I know firsthand some contractors who were let go from Citi in October and have found full time employment after that and also few employees who have left on their own in last couple months to find a better job rather than staying with uncertainty in Citi.

There’s nothing like jobs for everyone / universal employment, at least not in USA. For profit companies will always hire & fire at will for profit & shareholders value, whether we like it or not.

Ha! They cannot teach you anything. Everyone keeps their info to themselves, and the let the old timers go. Citi is about 5 years behind compared to BAC.

This is so true. Only take a job at Citi if you plan on retiring soon. You won’t learn anything.
