Thread regarding Optum layoffs

UnitedHealth Requiring People Managers to Attend Labor Relations Call

UnitedHealth Associate Director of Employee Relations Bianca Gray is leading calls with people managers, beginning today, April 18.

Bianca sharing on the call, “We respect our employees’ rights to organize, but we don’t think it’s necessary.”

Unionization is needed here, everyone. We are seeing hundreds of people laid off regularly, including today, April 18.

The company doesn’t think organization is necessary because they don’t want us to push back.

What are you talking about this doesn’t happen with unions? You’ve clearly never worked somewhere with a union. Pretty sure several of the employees cut yesterday were union.

This is exactly why this company needs unionization! The lay offs witnessed yesterday are something I have NEVER seen before. This doesn’t happen w/ unions. Entire departments were wiped out w/ the new Model of Care.

Optum needs to be unionized it’s a good thing esp for nurses providers and pharmacy

Look at how Kaiser settled

All a union would do is make things worse. Union people get laid off way more than non-union.

Copying this from the UHG site where the same post was made:

I am not saying what anyone should or should not do because this whole mess still irks me beyond belief as part of the 4/5 effective layoffs.

However, for those of you interested in actually receiving your severance package, please be cautious of who you speak to and what you communicate because that cr-p spreads like wildfire. There is a clause that indicates a condition that you may "not disparage UHG/UHC" or your offer can be rescinded, lmfao. There is also a clause that you may not bring any legal suits against them, or again, your severance is revoked.

Sooo, please just be cautious so that you don't end up sc--wing yourself over . . . And helping them save even more money in the process. :\

Essentially you find yourself in a damned if you do; damned if you don't situation. Is pushback, change, and reform required? Absofreakinlutely. But if you do so, then you lose out on the "generous redeployment package" they provide.

Their internal teams are completely fkn tone deaf when communicating with those impacted. You didn't redeploy jack; I am now unemployed, you twats. But please tell me more about how I should be grateful for your craptastic services to help me with career coaching and how to use LinkedIn, smh.

But a union does nothing to prevent layoffs. How would that even change anything?
