A guy I know who was laid off is one of the best workers and people I know. He's never had a bad review. His work was always praised by everybody. And yet he is gone. Please, nobody tell me ever again how layoffs are based on performance. That's absolutely not true.

"so many lazy people at concur why couldn't it have been them instead"
Wow, that's really a cheap shot. To be clear, there are/will be plenty of (SAP)Concurians affected, myself included. No one that I would consider lazy.
SAP has a knack for hiring & promoting managers who should never be in a management capacity. D-mb layoffs are the end result.
Nobody says it is based on performance.
I know a person being laid off who is like your describing, a completely wonderful colleague, cordial and personable while also being incredibly technically knowledgeable and the first person to put their had up for a new task or to offer help to others. Customers regularly mention him specifically in feedback, he has been nominated for fellowships and architect programs which he is (was) pursuing while maintaining his workload. He got so many rewards on the system that he maxed out for the last 2 years, he couldn't get any more.
Now he is putting a resumé together to work elsewhere and SAP are down a stellar employee that they had invested a lot into. He will probably be better off in the long run, but the remaining SAP colleagues have to eat sh-t while the productive talent is being thrown aside so they can tell shareholders they've cut costs by hiring replacements in India.
They are just selecting few teams for name sake and making them redundant. The top management has a target that needs to be made redundant and that's split region wise and hr says that's it
In the area I am in it is a political decision. They are getting rid of anyone who can expose the mess that some of the people with no experience are making. There are people literally doing nothing but attending meetings and building PPTs
A friend is getting laid off because they didn’t change his title a year ago to what they do now. A job title. Didn’t even check to see what they do today.

One good thing I know to be true. If a good employee gets cut because of bad decisions, that employee will land on their feet and probably be able to leverage a salary increase. The cream always rises to the top, just stay positive. I have seen it happen many times in my career. I know what a shock it all is, and I agree there isn't merit to doing business this way. The key is try to stay positive all through the transition from where you were to where you're going.
No, they said they need to favor workers in "emerging locations" which is a euphemism for "Cheaper labor" that could make even George Carlin groan.
By the way, we were not really "fired", nor "laid off", we were "Next Level Transformed".
No one said layoff is based on performance.
It was never intended to be based on performance, which is regrettable given the number of slackers around.
