Sikorsky plans more layoffs after Army cuts program

“As a result of the U.S. Army’s recent decision to cancel the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA) program, we are reducing positions within our Sikorsky business segment, which amounts to less than 1% of the Lockheed Martin workforce,” a Sikorsky spokesperson said in a written statement. “We intend to retain as many roles as possible to meet national security commitments and preserve the U.S. rotary wing industrial base.”

Either this week or next week when people will be notified
Even if you’re not laid off do you see yourself having a future and trust in the company anymore?

This is not going to be only Engineering and Tech. All sections, Ops,Supply, Finance... get whacked.

Agree that saying less than 1% of LM is bogus. It's going to be Sikorsky that takes the hit.

Sikorsky has a major design center in Ft. Worth.

Sikorsky closed their Philadelphia site not too long ago, where they had their commercial helicopter engineering, it was merged into Stratford. They closed part of their West Palm Beach location, so they could stop paying Pratt & Whitney leasing fees. Still, Sikorsky employs engineers at West Palm Beach, Maryland and Alabama. They have contractor Design Centers in Indiana and Kentucky. I assume these layoffs are directs. Contractor layoffs will be in addition to the 650. Companies are heartless, rather than using 10--15 percent attrition per year, and laying off all the contractors, they dump employees. Thinking this career choice is not a good one.

If the CT news site is correct and there are only 400 layoffs in CT then that means there will be 250 in the other sites. I'm not sure how many engineers exist outside of CT and WPB, but even if its upwards of 200 at WPB that's a huge percent.

When will these layoffs take effect? Immediately?

Everyone is saying it’s 1% to make it sound less impacting including every single LM employee in the math. the real math is just Sikorsky as others mentioned 650 people which is 6% of the entire workforce salary and hourly. Since this is impacting engineering and tech only, Sikorsky has nearly 3000 engineers and tech thats simple math and that makes it nearly 22%.

It now sounds like 400 in CT, 650 total. Sikorsky employs a lot of engineers out of state, but maybe not for long.

Paul Lemmo announcement this morning said 650. Gonna be a lot of people across the board. Probably including me.

Our CT elected reps do nothing. They moan but never play hardball. Tell them we whack the military spending

Lockheed Martin has 116,000 employees. 1% would be 1160. This could be a f*cking lot of engineers.
