Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Looks like more workers will be packed into the Warren Campus

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/general-motors/2024/04/15/gm-to-move-headquarters-from-rencen-to-hudsons-site/73326824007/

Looks like executive offices, finance staff, legal teams, communications and Human Resources get dibs on the new building.

Anyone else might get stuffed into the Warren campus. Great for more strong collaboration and utilization of campus bathrooms.

I don't know why anyone would invest in China.

They require all companies to do joint ventures with the Chinese government where the government has 51% control, and they'll steal all your IP and give it to your Chinese competitors. You're just training them to replace you and sell product for 30 or 40 percent less than you can.

April 26 (Reuters) - BMW (BMWG.DE), opens new tab said on Friday it planned to invest an additional 20 billion yuan ($2.76 billion) in its Shenyang production base in China, in a sign of the premium carmaker's "unwavering commitment to the Chinese market".

The core people still coming in for 8 hours T-TH are now fearing a 5 day week while attendance is optional for the rest. The same group of people not coming in are at least consistent. When the layoffs start, people will definitely notice if any of them survive.
That's when you really know who's on the 'friends and family' team. Those people should be ostracized with extreme prejudice.

the parking around MIC is already insufficient, to put it mildly. on top of that, they are planning to repave some of surrounding parking lots over the next month or 2. seems like that would've been a good thing to do in the weeks that surround july 4, when so many are using vacation time.

I would not be surprised if Mary Barra retires within that time.

It is REALLY depressing seeing how she handled things badly.

My colleagues and everyone else are going to have an interesting next 5 years….who knows what’s going to happen.

Two floors. Seems token. Most workers to be moved to Warren, or Mexico. Interesting that Chrysler also wants out of real estate. The big 3 are not so big anymore
