Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

GloFo stuck in the past

Who needs innovation when you have Moore's Law, am I right? Globalfoundries is out here celebrating their amazing newguiguinchiphonies based on their latest, cutting-edge processes

Newsflash: the rest of the semiconductor world is already on to 5nm and below. But hey, at least Globalfoundries is consistent - consistently behind the times.

Maybe they can team up with Blockbuster and Blackberry to release a retro phone with these revolutionary chips that do not need lower nodes.

Oh, and don't forget their cutting-edge RF technology! Sure, everyone else might be making smaller, faster chips, but at least Globalfoundries is the only source for... whatever it is they make.

Way overdue that JP was ousted. The exact opposite of who she told leaders to be

True. But it is also erroneous to say GF is run by a ibmer…. It’s run by a former ibmer who IBM wanted to get rid. A reject. If he was good or of high quality or worth keeping they would have found a new role for him or some new position or area to install him into. They did this for many that were on the fence between ibm and gf. Some ever got a choice! But in his case and the vast s majority of the leadership and management-they were ones ibm was to dump - cut out the cancer. All the questionable and just out right bad managers ended up on team orange. Doesn’t anyone else remember seeing the break downs before the transition and thinking ‘ah I see what they are really doing’? I know others did and openly spoke about it.

GF may or not be a sh-t company but it is not nice or fair to say that everyone employed is a reject. Many people reside in the area for family, etc.

Malta and Burlington sites are there as a front only. They will remain open to allow GF to funnel the CHIPS act money to the overseas operations and to line the pockets of the wee little man in charge.

Global Foundries is a sh-t company

Always has been, always will be

People working are all rejects from major companies

Without subsidies from NY they would be closed

GlobalFoundries laid off 800+ employees after record profits. The employee morale of those remaining will never recover. Those that left have told their story. This company will eventually go bankrupt.

It’s GF business model. Create and service the part of the market that uses older node tech. It is understood this share of the market will perpetually shrink, but there will always been some that need and will buy thus tech. GLOBALFOUNDRIES will shrink (layoffs) accordingly to match their ever shrinking customer base.

Ideally (in leadership’s business model), since it is old mature and very well established tech - Globalfoundries could operate on a skeleton crew just manufacturing these old style microchips - just maintain tools and push the on button…..
