Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

Paul violated the NLRA?

I believe Paul violated the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) during today’s office hours call by stating, “…I highly recommend you discuss your compensation with your manager and only your manager.”

https://www.nlrb.gov/about-nlrb/rights-we-protect/your-rights/your-rights-to-discuss-wages

states: “Policies that specifically prohibit the discussion of wages are unlawful as are policies that chill employees from discussing their wages.”

Anyone familiar with NLRA or with filing a complaint, and would consider this worth pursuing?

Please take the compensation survey that is circulating. We will not be silenced or intimidated so he can maintain inequity at the company.

Shady and disrespectful? Absolutely. Illegal? Probably not since it was a “recommendation” technically.

That's not him creating a formal policy so no. But they violated stuff all the time. They violate FMLA policies, they didn't hire people for illegal reasons (gender or disability for example). "Dont talk about your pay" is just something they can say but whatever, go talk about it. Make it normal to know what people self your level are making so they can't underpay based on gender, race or some other bogus reason.

It's likely not worth pursuing at that level, unfortunately. What is worth pursuing is continuing to have those transparent conversations with colleagues, managers, and peers regarding equitable workload distribution and compensation. Build your collective awareness, advocate for each other, and have each other's back when times get tough (unrealistic workloads are pushed, layoffs occur, you're trying to secure new employment, etc.)

It's perfectly within your right to have these conversations and even if it doesn't result in anything now- given the current state- it's still great practice for better careers down the line.

That didn’t happen. He just stated his personal preference.

Wow. Look at you. Yep, you got him. I suppose you caught it on camera, too? And you can produce something that states the policy in writing?
