Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

It's probably not going to work out for Developers too!

SDE's, FEE's, SDM's get zero love at Amazon. They are treated like bad misbehaving children. Their mandatory office attendance is recorded and enforced, while having to be on call at strange hours of the night, and hence zero work life balance. And the new 0% raise, 0 RSU yearly 'reward' policy is just another sm--k - "no cookies for you child" !

Great way to deal with financial problems by forcing out your best employees and wasting time and money by training the new unlucky employees who will rinse and repeat. For a company that's so redundant in the AI/ML world (given the larger popularity and adoption of Open AI, ChatGPT etc), you would think Software Engineers are more valuable (to make AI/ML useful). Fads like CodeWhisperer and Q can't write quality code (especially for very large codebases) and probably never will. After all, quality doesn't matter anymore at Amazon since you won't get rewarded for performance!

Get into a car accident going to the office, and then you can cry me a river. RTO is so yesterday.

Here is another one crying about going to the office to work. I am not sure where you learned about this idea, son, that you don’t have to show up at work. Change your mentality.

If Amazon isn't rewarding their employees with yearly RSU grants, then how does Amazon expect that their employees will write good code? i.e. No motivation, better alternatives. Meanwhile... Jassy’s compensation was $212 million (in 2021), $1.3 million (in 2022). $29.2 million (in 2023) for the sluggish 20% stock price growth over 4 years! Together, Jassy's comp is about 1385714 in shares at today's price - enough to grant 100 shares to 13857 high performing senior employees. Repeat that process for the rest of the S-Team members (giving their comp as shares to high performing employees), and you will get better code for sure! There is too much fat at the top.

If you can write good code, then you probably should not be working at Amazon in the first place. Get the pay that you deserve for your work elsewhere.
