Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Reorged to a weird team dynamic

Recently reorged to a team with a strange dynamic. My superiors are all about hierarchy - recently been told to not directly engage with anyone from upper management without going through direct manager first. Yo Citi is weird. Been at a few banks and consulting firms and I have never dealt with this dynamic before. Anyone else?

I noticed this as well when I joined the firm from a competitor. They are very political and all about keeping people in line and not asking questions. Its not a healthy environment.

Jane won’t be with Citi long term. The board will see her decision have been bad for the firm. Nothing is actually simpler. They are going to work the cr-p out of the remaining staff and no one will have time to make good long lasting improvements. Everyone is scrambling to try and make things better, but because they are so overworked and overwhelmed, none will be good changes. They got rid of a lot of very smart people.

Same thing with my team. Everyone is trying to throw one another under the bus by outshining them however they can.

As if you can be stopped from being friendly at events and promoting your achievements.

Can’t agreed more. Talkers take all the credit and doers are forgotten. Our MD is too stupid to understand basic analytics results while the group is about analytics. How the he-l he can lead, blind leads the blind.

Same thing is happening with my colleague and I who were recently reorged. Came from an MD who’s been with the firm for decades to this new team who appear to be so lost and just straight up cold.

Citi is where you go when you’re ready to whine down and retire. If you’re young and looking to learn and grow in your careers Citi is not the place for you. To many people Ive met barely with a high-school diploma are in VP and SVP positions while the new generation entering the work force who have degrees in Computer Science, Engineering or any degree for that matter are the ones disproportionately being let go in this re-org. What Ive learned is that Jane is not really looking to make Citi a simpler bank, she’s trying to make Citi a cheaper bank to run meaning she’s looking to save on severance and pay. No efforts are being made to create products that generate revenue. The revenue is being generated by getting rid of the younger more college educated workforce in favor of the lower paid legacy workforce that she’s hoping will soon. Im concerned Citi will be sold off to another institution very soon because the plan she’s put forth is not sustainable in the long term.

Of course. They want to keep your month shut then they can take your credit of work and sh-t on you.

I’m getting tired of this place. It’s reaching the point that I might not even care about the money. There’s a reason all these people have survived for decades given how this bank runs and it isn’t a good one. And there’s a reason everyone else is so apathetic about the place.

They’re likely middle managers wanting to feel superior.
