HT need to find a way to cut more expenses. HR has been instructed to bring forward transition employees separation date as early as end of March. Be prepared, you could be given less than a week notice that your date has changed and you're gone.

OP is correct to a certain extent. Quite a lot of transitional employees git moved up to end of March. Company will be able to save 6+ months of salary for each employee brought forward. Unvested RSUs goes back to the company. Bottom line result is a saving on employee expense and more equity in the bucket for redistribution. HT will find a way to win.

That's not a layoff. They already knew they were getting laid off. They just get their severance sooner.
We all know contracts can be finished earlier. This is standard for if your transitional job is done.
