Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Applying for a job at Shell

Does it make any sense at the moment? With the announced layoffs I've read about in M&A and other groups, do you expect a hiring freeze across other departments. I've seen job postings, but had no traction with apps, even with the introductory HR screening phone call, for jobs I feel well qualified for. I am a decade plus on the commercial side of the industry looking for next steps. Thanks in advance for any constructive insight or advice.

Agree with DEI poster. If you are not in a DEI category, it is tough sledding at Shell. I didn't see one non-DEI promotion in my group post Covid.

"If there is a hiring freeze, why are there new job postings?"

there is a whole magic show here for manipulation
for example, companies could post job openings to show investors that they are growing
but it is just for show

Unless you are getting a substantially big offer, I WILL NOT recommend Shell under the current leadership. I gave a decade of my key years coming straight out of a PhD program believing I’d be working on the best engineering problems. How wrong was I and the baloney of “cutting emissions” is largely by asset divestment which is a mere transfer out of the emissions problem from Shell’s books rather than truly solving it. Very misleading and uninspiring company as it currently exists and way way past its prime. Much happier with a US company that is focused, profit and shareholder driven, and cuts from the distractions of DEI and posing (full disclaimer- I am a woman of color and could not disagree more with Shell’s DEI strategy that is more posing and PR, and have promoted some of the most incompetent leaders (white, non-white and women) to appease to the DEI metics. Don’t get me wrong, DEI is important, but first is competence and ability, Shell might have had the right intention but as usual, implementation is an abject and pathetic failure .
