Thread regarding Marathon Petroleum layoffs

Welcome to Houston

Where you have to pay for parking because the company won’t even cover the full cost in record years. What’s the severance package look like? I’d take it if offered.

When Phillips Petroleum and Conoco Merged, they moved the HQ of the new company from Bartlesville, OK to Houston (Conoco’s HQ was already there) for better access to industry and better services (mostly air travel)

Bartlesville is 40 minutes north of Tulsa and required the long drive through nothing to get there. And, there was nothing to do.

What makes sense from an industry view? You're same 'leaders' fired the entire Andeavor crude team because they would not move to Findlay. Now that employees have advantaged financing rates in Findlay, they want to give us marching orders to move South and not keep us whole on our rates, for what? It clearly was good enough to them to fire the crude team and not move to Houston, albeit they quickly moved the G5 jets to Findlay. MPC get aways with paying submarket rate because they are in the captive market that is Findlay. Moving to the epic center they need to raise comp, or talent will make good on being in the epicenter. Your leader is so committed to Findlay, he rents 'because Houston is expensive'.

“Clean lifestyle”. Get outta here. Findlay has an inbred type culture. Everyone knows your business and sticks their nose into everyone else’s life on a regular basis. Nepotism runs deep in MPC from the top down.

As has been mentioned before ... it's not a Findlay v Houston culture/geography/little v big comparison. It's simply what makes sense from an industry view. Findlay never has been nor ever will be the "center of the universe" of oil/gas/refining that some folks believe it to be. For access to industry and support of industry and it's "movers/shakers", Houston is the place that makes sense. Nothing inherently special about Houston (from an oil/gas/refining perspective) other than these facts. If Findlay were such a place, there would be no need to relocate.

It’s clear to me now that Hess hates the Amish.

Findlay is a good place to live and raise a family if you prefer a clean lifestyle. Close by amish/mennonite villages help lead people to be more self-sustaining and promote honesty. Wholesome home grown food and people.

Houston is just another high crime big city. Silly to ever move there unless bar life and street walkers is where you heart is.
