How's visual going in your store?

Now that there are Visual Managers back in the stores, how is it going? Has it made any difference? What does the VM do?

As a former Visual hourly Mgr. and now a “Captain”🙄, my store is too small to get the new Visual Mgr. position. Thank God! As it is we’re safe for 2024 but after that??? Anyway, I was a visual mgr. before Covid, I came back and now I’m a Captain???, and now if they bring back the Mgr. position back into your store (20 million and above) I’d have to interview for the position even though you’ve been doing it for years. You can keep it and all the bells and whistles that go with it! When I came back after the covid closure they made me an OVM, I soooo HATED IT! I stepped out of it and with that took an $8,000.00 cut! Best decision I ever made!

Honestly, I think it depends on the store manager expectations and the visual manager. I know VMs who bust their butts (they generally were visual managers who were cut in 2020 but are back, or SMMs who moved into the visual job).

But I also know new ones who just do mannequins and signage and don't know how to do things like floorplan because they were never managers in the first place.

I disagree with the above visual manager. They don’t do p-o except mannequins and some wallpaper, oh and of course Starbucks .They don’t even actually manage anyone. They certainly don’t deserve 60k a year

You people crack me up, Visual is so much more than just mannequins and hanging “red ba--s”, that’s the least of my problems. I am a visual manager who’s position was eliminated a few years back and am now visual manager again but it’s very different this time. Yes I agree they haven’t fully explained the details of everything this time around and I don’t have an official team but I can assure you I bust my A** everyday helping out the store! I get help from the rest of the store population to do tasks but I’m also very hands on myself and am constantly busy. I’d love to see some of you complete the amount of workload I do everyday. Not only do I report to the store manager, I also deal with our Director, SMM’s, DDV, SDV, DM, our DVP who all have different opinions on how they want things done, need I say more?

They also change the Tri-stacks and are required to open visual packaging materials.

Visual captains didn't have staff, they were supposed to train other store employees in visual to help them. That is the same that is expected of the visual managers. They don't have staff either or any direct reports but they're supposed to find sales and support associates to help them.

Getting paid $65k + benefits to basically dress mannequins sounds like a sweet deal.

Visual Manager = salaried exec minimum 65k, 5wks PTO + Sick + IYT days + Short Term Disability

As a part time merchandising associate, our new Visual manager is overwhelmed and I will not step up to help with visual like I did in the past and not get pay for it. Piling up employees with more responsibilities and no extra pay will only make things worst. Everything will soon go to sh#%%

Be happy to have anyone help you . It’s up to you the VM to train others to help and assist. Visual captains before didn’t have a staff . Unsure why this is a surprise.

How is this a manager position if they have no direct reports ? Doesn’t seam to be equal.

VM = salaried executive (higher pay + more benefits)

Captain = $2-$3 more an hour than minimum wage.

What’s the difference now that it’s a visual manager position vs being a captain from a job responsibilities standpoint? I’ve seen no change . Thought this was to elevate the stores .So far nothing.

Visual Manager has the same pay scale as MBA, CXM, SMM, OMM

Yeah, the things I've been starting to hear is that this visual "manager" position is a glorified visual captain with no one reporting to them and no other responsibilities than mannequin updates.

visual manager will be the first position to be cut if anything.

Yep ours seams overwhelmed also .Can barely keep trend -highlight fixtures updated timely and we are paying this individual as a manager to update mannequins. What else is their job responsibilities?

Our visual manager seams totally overwhelmed with her new position. Previously she was our SSM and before that was the visual manager a few years back . How much has it changed ? I know our visual captain previously didn’t have helpers . But now it seams to take forever to even do updates and she is very overwhelmed.

Has anyone else gotten the " we aren't sure what to do with your position yet the company is still trying to figure it out"

Also would like to know what is expected of other Visual Managers.
Speaking with other VMs everyone is having different expectations...

Not having a team is frustrating especially when you're given "help" that thinks changing manniquens is too much work and ask for another task.....
