Thread regarding Optum layoffs

People wishing Chapter 11

I know everyone here has some beef or ill-feelings but wow I can’t believe people would want to wish the whole UHG/Optum company to just disappear like that. If a few of us got laid off, why wish that for the other 440,400 employees? Not to mention the impact it will have on all of the customers and partners across US. It’s another level of masochism to want the entire ship to sink because a few of us were laid off.

Loyalty without reciprocity is what this company expects. No can do.

I find it funny that the "gentleman" who doesn't understand the measurements of effective leadership felt the need to reference biology as it pertains to women. It was obvious from your first sentence that the viewpoint being expressed was extreme right-wing. No need to further announce yourself.

The only way the pain the people at the bottom can be felt by leadership is for the whole thing to fall. While this company eventually recovers, and it will, it will be the people working 50+ hours a week for scraps who end out on the streets and not the C-suite executives who despise and look down at us. Our executives will instead receives bonuses, jobs at new companies.

How this thread went from bankruptcy to a p-ssing contest over executive gender performance is beyond me, but I'd like to illustrate a female can castrate a male with one look. So top that all you guys out there!

Fine with women being executives, but I think we've proven that Indian management needs to go!

Perused the information provided in the link. There are ZERO measurable (e.g., increased returned on investment, lower costs of production, improved efficiency, etc.) benefits identified in any of the content provided. Primarily statistics and percentage that identify no true attribution directly to a female leader. Feel free to continue posting 'feel good content' or qualitative information. On a side note, I prefer to work with a female (biological) leader. They have greater credibility in the workplace based on my extensive experience.

This company is a filled with a greedy, toxic and unethical culture.
They don't care about employees, members, patients, providers or customers, they only care about the shareholders, the stock value, and their leadership compensation packages. Yes, this company needs to be investigated, fined, and broken up to protect the healthcare system. KARMA - - they are getting back what they did to people, all the patient treatments that were declined etc. because they didn't want to approve them and spend the money (that is what insurance is for - to pay for medical expenses)

So yes, they need to be broken up and if that means bankruptcy, they deserve what they get. Sir Witty had billions in fines when he was at Glaxo, and UHG still hired him and they just allowed him to bring over his partner in crime who they groomed for 6 months before kicking Neil out the door.
So now it's all over again for Witty and his cronies. It is a UHG problem

Karma will get them

To the person that commented "Having women in senior executive roles (i.e. the right women) makes companies more ethical, profitable, innovative, the list goes on." and provided the link as a reference to provide evidence that woman in executive leadership provide value. The information provided within the link provides ZERO quantitative benefits for placing a female in an executive leadership. There are NO studies that provide measurable benefit directly attributable to a female leader. If there was verifiable evidence that woman themselves deliver heightened value, every executive board would consists of females. Try facts over feelings and numbers over a narrative.

Does anyone remember what caused the downfall of Rome? Here's a history lesson- CORRUPTION. Were the Roman people bad? Nope, but people governing were. No one is wishing will ill to the employees, but once a company has taken it too far I'm sorry but they deserve to fall. And for those of you who keep saying UHG is too big, reminds me of when people couldn't believe that the Titanic had sunk.

How stooopid! A fortune five company that earns BILLIONS every quarter is going to enter bankruptcy reorganization? I think insurance is a cash cow, we have so much money we are too rich to fail! We may have stupid liberal leadership, destroying our company and culture by embracing progressive values which lend NOTHING to productivity and instead reward mediocrity. It’s part of why leadership thinks nothing of offshoring high paying jobs and enriching people who will never add long term value to the corporation, evidence is staff turnover rate! So chapter11 talk really is not really funny, maybe sad funny that anyone would think it could happen to UHG! I do hope the recent IT debacle leads to some heads cut off because we have too many Directors making too much money and need to invest in experienced technicians. I mean with 15-20yrs of experience and not vocationally trained technicians with 5yrs experience, Namaste!

There’s a reason why OpenAI got rid of all the women on the board. Ethical AI was in conflict with profits. Elon is right to sue another con man putting everyone at risk for their gain.

To the person who thinks a DEI person is advocating for women leaders: https://hbr.org/2021/04/research-adding-women-to-the-c-suite-changes-how-companies-think

Having women in senior executive roles (i.e. the right women) makes companies more ethical, profitable, innovative, the list goes on.

You see what having men in senior executive roles does.

"A good start would be flipping the leadership gender balance at the most senior levels to mirror the female to male ratio found at lower levels.". It appears that a UHC DE&I leader has joined the discussion since there's no comment about merit being a consideration for a Senior leadership role; only gender.

Anyone wishing for the demise of the company is worse than the top leadership by a lot. There are a lot of families who depend on the incomes of the employees and a lot of patients who depend on the care delivery organization and a lot of health plan members who depend on the plan benefits.

Mean-spirited spiteful wishes of karma for the company as an entity is immoral. What any ethical person should be hoping for is a complete change in senior leadership and the installation of a leadership team who will lead differently - better - balancing the need between driving results and having a strong, positive culture. It can be done. There are examples in corporate America. Few - but they exist.

A good start would be flipping the leadership gender balance at the most senior levels to mirror the female to male ratio found at lower levels.
