Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

This company has been due for a change

I know this is NOT what people want to hear on this site but honestly, every-time these days I sit on a meeting I can't help but wonder how it is possible this company has survived so long.

It's like the BS and never ending empty talks will never stop here, it has been going on for years now and I don't know how a company can stay competitive being like that. No wonder they are letting us all go...

Ok, ready to be down voted LOL!

What about employees writing e-mails making the case for more equitable treatment in this year's downsizing/offshoring? Suggest the return of 2 weeks severance and add the 4 day work week when training/knowledge transfer. Send to your manager, cc Karthik and Dave Kenny (former chief DEI officer) and the current DEI officer. What have you got to lose? After you sign severance papers you will be silenced. Do it now, speak up for those who can't, who may have already signed the papers. With the Internet, it is much harder for companies to treat employees poorly. Use the power. Let the upper management know how you feel. Again, what have you got to lose. Sending a letter requesting equitable treatment is not grounds for firing, is it? You stayed a difficult year. Maybe someone could put a draft here if people find writing letters difficult.

We are talking about extenuating circumstances here. What about Equity, as in DEI. Is it fair that the first 2 rounds of people laid off got 2 weeks severance (per year worked) and did not have to train their replacements? And I believe research shows the 4 day work week is as productive as 5 day. Communication (done respectfully, without hate) may bring unexpected results. Ted Lasso rules!

It’s comical you think anyone in the states gives a sh-t about the EU or what you have over there. We know our country is fu---d. We’re doing our best with what we have.

Hey US people you are living like in a cave and that is not an insult, just observation. Outside of US people are already working 4 days a week in some countries for full time salary. We also have health insurance for everything, They can’t fire us without full severance which is in the law in EU. In some countries you get severance and payed work for 6 months, i think Germany. US is not the best country for working class people, you are slaves compared to developed countries.

You want full pay for working 3 to 4 days a week? Sure, I’d love to be treated that way but I wouldn’t expect any employer to pay me full time for working part time.

There are a lot of wh-z kids these days globally (including US). I was working with two new hires who were fantastic (one has since been laid off, what a pity!). And this dismantling of the company (made up of too many companies and products which cannot be integrated) may be due, but the real bummer is how they are going about it. They should reward people who will train offshore by giving them 3-4 day work weeks at full pay and NOT cutting severance. And tell it like it is, not doublespeak. Treat others as you would want to be treated.

This job has always rewarded the performative, the people who say they're doing so much, so busy and so invested over those who were really carrying the weight -- middle management is evidence of that -- but how different are other companies? I completely agree that Nielsen needs massive change but I doubt this is it. Not that it matters to me anymore, I'll be watching from the outside as this train derails. Here's hoping my next employer cares more about results than schmoozing. 🍻

Yeah, this company has become a communist dictatorship where talking BS is better than anything else. I can't wait to leave!

Ditto. I got laid off last summer, prior to that I almost encouraged my manager to let me go by telling him in my personal evaluations that I don't wanna grow further in the company lol. Because it wasn't a place for further personal investment anymore. Meaningless meetings, people's inflated egos, constant replatforming the solutions without doing anything innovative. Let it crash and burn.

It's gotten more dysfunctional after last year's layoffs, not less, because the best people are leaving. You think things will get better when experienced people are replaced with people in India?
