Symantec Business Unit is facing serious challenges. It is losing customers and no longer recognized as a serious security vendors. Both are considered old technology with no innovation. There were layoffs in December 2023. More will happen in April.

No surprise, when Broadcom took over Symantec, Hock announced he's not interested in investing in R&D.
It is a real shame, CB was a great small company, fantastic culture, growing, respected in the industry, VMWare ki-led it, Broadcom picking through the carcass
"So you literally have no clue how Symantec or Carbon Black works. Got it."
Dont tell me you are part of STAR and building 8th wonders in the world. Palo alto networks who started the business late is creating great products that is much more effective than what you guys do.
Almost PA has all of what you have in your 8th wonders.
common, paid vulnerability, virus signature db
So you literally have no clue how Symantec or Carbon Black works. Got it.
technically both simon tec, cooorban block sh--s connects to the common, paid vulnerability, virus signature db somewhere at the backend. why the he-l you need two separate team same sh-t?
front end app u name it 1000 ways and make money out of it in different way boys..

Get ready to be synergistically F’d in the A
Merging Carbon Black with Symantec forms the new Enterprise Security Group at Broadcom

Had a meeting with Symantec. They were very focused on now being able to check the Gardner quadrant after "joined" with VMware. But when asked how they would work together with VMware. They looked puzzled and only stated that Symantec is their own BU within Broadcom. So nothing has changed!
VMware's legacy software apps will likely follow the same path to eventual obscurity.
Neat! Then all security problems will be solved, too, right?
Symantec was terrible BEFORE Hock bought it - just saying.
Broadcom Software is only successful because its customer CIOs are inept. For example, CA is still selling mainframe applications with inflated pricing and very little support.
VMware's legacy software apps will likely follow the same path to eventual obscurity.
HT states....
"Broadcom’s business model and its decades of focus on R&D combined with VMware’s core technology and superb talent will be the catalysts that will enable VMware to capture the growth opportunity in front of it. Broadcom has 22 independently run product divisions, and strong technology that is critical for customers around the world.
My philosophy is that if you do what you do well and keep focusing on doing these things better – as a market leader, a product leader, or a technology leader – you will become the best in your space. Broadcom’s business model is based on the thesis that the technology we develop is a roadmap, is evolutionary, and gets better with time.
The wider technology industry, as well as customers, will only stand to benefit from Broadcom unlocking VMware’s potential by helping it build on its strengths and ambitions."
I choose to believe the words from Hock Tan's mouth over your text.
Accelerating VMware’s growth
Broadcom focuses on innovation and R&D

Well he did reconsider it and then dismissed it in favor of his beginning-of-the-19th-century vision on work.
that same person stated that one of the reasons VMware was so interesting
was because of its innovating power. 6 months in, a lot of those innovating
forces have either left or been let go.
He also said that the WFH policy would be re-considered.
Was it, or was it a merely platitudes to keep people from quitting en masse?
You are free to believe in whoever you want, including but not limited to the tooth fairy, Santa Claus and Hock Tan.
At the start of this take-over process, that same person stated that one of the reasons VMware was so interesting was because of its innovating power. 6 months in, a lot of those innovating forces have either left or been let go.
"Objection!"
It goes to credibility, your honor. The witness clearly wants to believe in fairytales.
> Isn't that the business plan all along? Do not innovate.
This is not how it works at all. How can there still be people out there
who don't understand this yet.

More of this mystical fortune-telling BS.
If you're calling out that they're losing customers then you still have not grokked Broadcom and playbookSymantec. They want to lose customers. They will push CB to lose customers. The more cheap customers they lose then the more they can focus on whales. This is literally Broadcom's play book and has always been. You cannot see it in action and assume that it means things are on fire.
Symantec does not need to innovate. Innovate just enough to keep your customers. Nothing more. Remain sticky. They do that well. It makes money, it satisfies Hock.
Isn't that the business plan all along?
Do not innovate.
Lay off all people that are not needed to not innovate.
Continue to sell to customers until they are all gone.
A non-innovating business without customers doesn't need to exist, so shut it down.
Yes, and like a vampire, Hock will su-k all the money out of the corpse and then dispose of the body.
Biz as usual.
