Only after this round was done I realized what anticipating layoffs did to me. I sighed a sigh of relief, and then I realized it all really damaged me and continues to do so. I can recognize the same feelings in my immediate surroundings, and wouldn’t be surprised if it’s company-wide. Every round of layoffs changes the work environment, and not for the better. I can only assume culture and motivation will continue to deteriorate.

I speak to a lot of people in field and different areas daily. Everyone I talk to says I have lost so much drive. No feeling to do anything more than bare minimum. The morale is severely diminished and will never return.
So many say I just don’t give a fu-k about this company any longer.
Sad but true.
Motivation is just not there.
Culling the heard is the goal I guess. Although if you look up the meaning, its supposed to be for the greater good. But we all knew from the start it's to support growth of the investors. Not the culture of the heard.
My advice in an oil/gas company, is to stay close to the pipe/product. But even now its apparent that statement hardly true anymore either.
It is hard to understand, but layoffs are hard on the survivors too. The atmosphere totally changes and the spark to do your job is gone. We just wonder when our time will come, as there are always pockets of layoffs. It just feels so shaken up.
You are not alone.
