How long will it take Broadcom to evaluate how many employees are needed to continue running the former VMware show before they implement the next round of cuts? I think people from other acquired companies said around a year, but it'd be nice to get confirmation.

Soon
likely before Q2 earnings.
Given the timing of everything recently, Hock likely had a deadline for himself for Q1 to sort out CB and EUC + reduce headcount (Costa Rica, H1Bs...etc) and sort out offices.
Q2 is likely VMC and flatten org chart the way he likes. Thus far, he hasn't really gone for engineering in the US, this will come as they reorg.
My guess is remote PA/Austin/larger US sites will get the request to come in ( 50 mi and ask for relocation and top performers can get VP exception. This is in line with everything Hock said in the Coffee Talk when he acquired VMware. Fwiw, everything Hock has said, he has done.
This is purely my speculation.
The most logical time is in the planning for FY25, that usually gets locked in a quarter ahead start of the financial year…so my bet is September.
That give time for the company to see show VMw things work in the world of BC, any excess will be more obvious once everything has passed Day 2, everything is fully on BC systems.
The idea behind this is smart, the execution…not so slick.
It already started.
