Thread regarding VMware layoffs

For those of you who decided to stay...

The compensation package is very enticing in EMEA. If I tighten my belt and watch my spending, I could probably take a break from work for a year, maybe even longer. On the other hand, the RSUs are a significant benefit, especially with the constantly increasing stock price. It's a tough call, so I gotta ask: for those who stayed, any regrets? We haven't really seen much of Broadcom yet since everything's up in the air with the BU, but what's the vibe like? How long can you keep going before hitting burnout in the current environment? I need to make a decision soon.

I made the decision to stay. I didn't have the tenure of some of my colleagues and the payment coming at the end of the tax year made it more important to get a replacement job quick.

If i had more tenure (hence better layoff package) I would have left. The culture is gone already, no direction, no communication, honestly we are thinking about $'s above all else and not the customer.

Since the layoff its been Teflon shoulders around me... This isn't VMware. Its VMware by Broadcom, there completely different.

I did make the decision to leave.
I’m not going to lie it was mainly due to personal reasons, i had been unhappy in my job for a long time. Motivation at all time low.

The severance package looked attractive as I could take 2-3 months off and relax before I start looking for another job.

Now I get up around 9am every morning, chill for an hour. Spend 3-4 hours daily doing up-skilling, have much more time for hobbies and exercise. Life is good!

If I was happy in job I might have chosen to stay, but for me I never was happy in my role . I don’t regret leaving.

You have to be insane to walk away from a stock vesting schedule at $1300+ and rising.

Broadcom is now a lean, highly profitable tech company with what many would consider elite compensation opportunities.

What burnout? Based on my experience in the EUC BU, everyone is just waiting for KKR to offer us a severance package. Meanwhile, there's a total lack of motivation in our team.

Just imagine nearly two years of sales stagnation and clueless BU leadership. It's pitiful

Also take into consideration the job market. VMware roles are far and in between here in the UK at least - paying maybe half of what they used to pay and do pay at Broadcom. Also with now a heck of a lot more partner alienated in terms of vmware eco system, your outlook for a job that pays as well as VMware / Bcom does and did are bad.

Even if you stay, make sure you upskill and don't rely on someone needed vmware guys going forward.

"IF they get to vest and IF the stock price continues to rise "
I am not greedy. Sold mine at 1375, which is more than 2x what they paid us. Will it cross 2000? Nobody knows.

Work environment and benefits got worse. But you got RSU

Sure - IF they get to vest and IF the stock price continues to rise (which will partly depend on how well they ingest VMware and whether investors continue throwing money at anything which could be related in some way to AI). I left taking what I knew vs. projections and assumptions. No regrets whatsoever.

Feel free to run if you have other options. It's not the worst company in the world, but it's not amazing, and VMware folks are still not adapting well at all

All of the complaining on here is from bitter people who almost certainly no longer work for the company. Nothing has really even changed yet. It may very well in the future, but as of right now, the only big difference is a much, much higher total compensation package. I'm gonna work just as hard as always and I hope to be with Broadcom for a very long time.

It's not that different yet, and we had our letters early in the process. There's not been any seachange in workload, scope or responsibilities. All while the RSUs vest nicely

Rest and Vest guy has it right. I'm ready to work hard but resting and vesting in the meantime. When leadership figures out what to work on and then cracks the whip on core account teams slacking we'll see some movement. In the meantime, rest and vest.

I signed to stay. My advice, if you can look after your priorities in the short term whilst job searching, take the money and run. If not, stay, but don't look to be here in 6 months time. It's terrible.
