I have never seen a top-tier institution full of so many whiny, low-qualified people who are clinging to comp and ben they can never get anywhere else because no good company will ever hire them at such level as Citi. Pathetic. This is why so many people at Citi have a 15+y tenure and are proud of that - because they never believed they can get their foot into such a place and they have no chance of changing it ever.

Citi: Garbage In, Garbage Out. NO wonder Citi is FUBAR. LOL !
OP - For someone with top tier qualifications that any company would be falling over themselves to hire you, Your grammar is atrocious and reeks of the epitome of what you are criticizing. Based on your two posts here, I wouldn't hire you. Your word salad ramblings and entitlement alone are a quick way for your resume to make it to the round file.
OP here: I have been at many top educational and industry institutions already. I made the mistake to join Citi sometime ago and I will fix that soon. I am fine - my background and skills are at level where any top company would hire me. In addition, I am having my own business so probably would not need a job anymore soon. So no, I would not look at my post in 15y and think that I became the same old low-qualified clinger.
The key is to remove the outdated and rotten management that has been in Citi for the past 20 to 30 years and replace them with competent new generation of leadership!
I agree. Lots of fake resumes looming around. All brought in by Consulting managers and their favorite consultants. I have seen Masters reporting to Bachelors/No degree/No brainer.
Two things need to happen. First, people need to bow out gracefully. If you’re at retirement age or above please just retire and allow a younger person a chance. Second Im looking at the job requirements at Citi. All positions require a bachelors, most a Master and Ive even seen some roles that require a phd. For those employees who are a AVP or above that don’t hold at least a Bachelors they should be required to go get one. Otherwise no position at Citi should require a degree. If they require a degree then those people who don’t have one should be removed from those roles or shouldn’t be allowed to move into another role even if its lateral. Ive seen people who barely have a high school diploma manage people with Masters. That is not normal and I think Citi needs to fix that. Citi has to weed out that very low educated workforce. I know it sounds pompous but it is what it is. As a manager I would NOT hire anyone without at a minimum a Bachelor's degree.
We are not talking about age. We are talking about length of service in the organisation. Yes, there are people inside that are older and/or have served longer, and still have a good working attitude. But there are also people inside that are older and/or have served longer, yet carry the attitude that things should stay the way they are and cannot change unless they are agreeable. The second group of people is the one holding the organisation back and causing younger and/or newer people to quit
Totally true, but nothing to do with age. Just favoriam. How can your intern who never worked anywhere else became your boss, or boss’s boss after 10 years. But other interns from better schools never got hired? All young or old people treated differently regardless talent, experience or ability to contribute. Ok, personality is the key, but more friendship, relationship! I hope this skill is taught in school!
Then prove to us the people that have been inside longer are still capable of delivering
Wait till you’re older. You’ll read these posts and think eff off.
Agree, and Citi leaders celebrate when Citi lifers are moved into new leadership roles or shuffled around. This place needs NEW blood! How can they not see that? Nobody is getting excited for change if the same old guys are still running the show. There have been a few exceptions, but overall... not much new around here
Unfortunately it’s true. I have never seen such lethargy and apathy in any place I’ve worked at before. It is to the point that I have to mentally filter out everything to avoid being su-ked in by such culture. Some quite literally look consumed from the inside out. That has frightened me at times. People are trapped by their compensation in a place that definitely isn’t making any one second enjoyable. It shows in the way a lot conduct and present themselves. This was so even way before the layoff announcements. There are moments when I have to question myself where even am I, is this for real? It’s that weird and odd, which were perfect words to describe it, because no one ever envisions such a name and company to be like this.
You’re so right. I said this on another post and the older folks got offended. When I joined Citi I was 29 years old and by that time everyone on my team had been with Citi for 25 years or more. Most joined Citi before I was born. These jobs required degrees and knowledge in Tech yet they were somehow able to land these jobs. I don’t know how they landed these jobs but unfortunately these are the people that remain at Citi. Even during this major re-org the younger more educated workforce has been runoff. Jane thinks she’s going to make the bank better but unfortunately it will remain the same as the same people are still there calling the shots. I joined Citi 8 years ago and these people are still there and have not been made part of the RIF. This tells me that the re-org is not going to improve Citi and I don’t think Jane or Mark know what they are doing tbh.
