Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Details about last layoffs, parting discussion

if there are any of you laid off still browsing this page, I was curious- did any of you in an office role have any discussions about why you were laid off? were they looking over your shoulder or at your workload? if so, what were some of the non-self-identifiable things they said?

or was it just a clear cut "we have decided to eliminate your role and will no longer need your services at this time" type of thing?

I was laid off because people higher than me were threatened by my performance, influence, and abilities.

“You will never be told Why. They don’t have to tell you and never would for legal reasons.”

This especially if you’re in the US under “at will” employment, they will not give you any reasons because you might use it to sue Enbridge for grounds for unlawful termination.

Some labor laws in Canada allow for layoffs due to challenging business conditions, thus the wordings in the press release.

To add to what I wrote below, they did say something about my termination not being related to job performance. As someone else mentioned, it was not a discussion. It was a script, termination was immediate. HR came in and detailed my severance. They wanted it signed within 36 hours as well as I was required to sign an NDA regarding severance details. I got a pretty good severance so I signed.

Another one here who was read from a script. Basically, I was told my position 'was no longer available'.
I always did well in my performance evaluations and was a steady performer. It was just a case of re-organization and I didn't fit in the realignment.

Yes. Director read from a script. Then left room. HR took over from there giving some details on next steps. Then that was it. All access cut off. End of employment immediately.

It wasn’t a discussion. The director read from a script. No details, no reason.
