A lot of BS thrown up in this chat. If u are a manager and already at level 8, the team under you will get moved up to report to next level. In cases where VP reporting to VP or SVP reporting to SVP, that also will be eliminated. Level 6 is usually a D(sometimes MD). Level 7 is SVPs or VPs(to fill in the count of 8) and the rest below. Last level has no limits( level 7 can have any number of level 8s). The funny thing is Jane spoke of 8*8 structure but so many layers seem to have taken exception to the rule and taken upto 14. There are many teams( disguised under Governance and Support) doing the same roles which BCG is unable to eliminate.

I know several SVPs that are effectively individual contributors. Or some that have only 1-2 direct reports. But they are under a director that has 20+ people under them. In theory, would it turn out to be 20 people reporting under that one director? Surely, some SVPs may consolidate teams and some may be eliminated outright or turned into IC's, but this over-generalization of eliminating the SVP title doesn't make much sense when you factor in so many circumstances.

I was SVP as an IC, is that unusual? I left Citi for a better opportunity and am sadly watching the slow mo layoff from afar.

There are svps out there with three or less avp's or vps reporting to them. To me that makes zero sense

What about VPs who are managing employees and consultants? Are they getting promoted? Or they will become ICs?

Who cares, bcg is moving while people and units to new organizations and totally difference roles. They will be eliminated either now or later, this is just phase 4 and more to come. It will be md to c16 director to c15 director all need a minimum of 6 to 12 people under them some maybe exception and have 14 to 22, depends. Sweet spot 8. It wouldn't matter, it's like schuffle board. So brace yourself it's all a big mess, they don't have it together since Sept this was announced. Everyone is shuffling around behind closed doors and doing it now haphazardly as citi always do.

My director has about 30 people on her team, with 5 SVPs but they range from having 2 directs to 8. I’m on a team of four VPs reporting under 1 SVP. It wouldn’t make sense to dissolve these layers of management since each group performs a vastly different function. How do you all anticipate the outcome of this specific situation?

They aren't going to reduce your pay. But all SVPs - (C14s) will become ICs. Basically the SVP title is going away. It will be a different version of a VP. All 15s and above now must have a minimum of 6 people. In a lot of cases, the people taken from 14s will be needed to support the 6 a 15 or above needs. All that said, taking away titles, taking away direct reports etc, is all out of the quiet cutting playbook. Take away your responsibility, your title etc, are all things that can be used to get you to quit which is cheaper than paying you severance. "thanks for all your hard work, here's a demotion".

Facts, many will be become IC or be let go or demoted with pay reduction.

Correct. It’s expected that many will become individual contributors or be fired.
