Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Hock and young talent

I left today, and I’m glad to not work in Hock’s company any more.

He said at his first coffee talk that he didn’t invest in young talent as he could just buy those people in once they were useful after a competitor had invested in them.

There were 8 degree apprentices in the UK who have all been laid off. These are people at the beginning of their careers who have been cast aside because Hock won’t pay their minimal salaries.

This is interesting. Hock, apparently doesn't want to pay for seasoned/older talent, either. Take a close look at the age demographics of those laid off. They played it juuuust close enough to the line not to get sued. But the ageist strategy was obvious.

Now compare that to the typical tech company's age discrimination practices, and you'll understand why the 'nice and pleasant' favorites in the middle group get to stay - until they're the gray-haired guy or gal that is pushed out. Welcome to corporate reality.

Yeah BC / HT su-ks, you dodged a bullet, it would have been a stain on your resume. I wish you the best in your career!

That is a really sh---y thing that they have done with the degree apprenticeships. I hope you find a better company that will pick things up and allow you to complete the course.

You’re at the start of your career and the reality is you’re better off elsewhere in the long run. You’ll look back in a few years time and be thankful you left
