so being they announced 50 stores will close a year are they still opening the smaller locations?

Yes. Many of the new small format locations will be direct replacements for closing stores
What everyone fails to understand is this is a good thing. It may be 150 stores closing, but they are only 10% of the business!!!!! These are the locations that we have always asked “why would macys want their name on the building?” Old dying or dead malls.
Macys will reinvest in go forward stores and continue to open new small format locations.
