Thread regarding Marathon Petroleum layoffs

Why is this board so active?

I came on this message board in 2020 after a coworker mentioned it to me during the actual layoff event going on at the time. Since then I have noticed that the overall TheLayoff.com site is generally only active for any given company when they are expecting, experiencing, or rumored to be laying people off. Not MPC. This board is constantly active with talk about this and that, and the overwhelming majority is not flattering to the company.

Why do you suppose that is? Is this company so toxic that people have taken to this message board as a way to vent? It seems all MPC is worried about is shareholder value.

Employees are the last to know when a shuffle of jobs are being planned so it pays to do your own research. This thread is not only just for after you have been laid off when it is too late but it is also to help look ahead and way out your future chances of losing work so that your family is prepared.

Stays active to help one another out and pulse the industries such as supposing why were 111 laid off at Exxon Mobil in Plano Texas? MP and Exxon Mobil are similar companies. We do not know if one company will follow the others moves but it makes sense to at least be aware of it.

It wasn't THAT long ago when "don't lie and give a reasonable amount of effort and you'll have a job here as long as you want it" was true at MPC

Oil/gas employees stay jittery because their work is not stable. The price of fuel jumps up and down, the politicians mess around in it and the daily economic situation effects it. It is only natural for workers to keep a very close eye on the situation to plan ahead.

They do to many surveys already... They just ignore any data they don't like from them

MPC does not do meaningful employee surveys, but they should.

MPC is frequently listed on the front page as being one of the more active forums in the M's.

While I do agree about the atmosphere being somewhat toxic (at least where I work), I think you’re wrong about the site’s activity. I follow several O&G forums. and most of them are frequent all the time. Also, whenever I take a peek on latest posts, there is a bunch of threads about banks so I suppose banking forums are constantly busy too.
