Got laid off

Got laid off! Been playing up in my mind all day long. Can’t sleep at the moment. Still in a bit of a shock that this happened.

I was also laid off 6 years ago, and I was devastated. But life goes on. I found another job quickly and had two incomes with my severance.

I was laid off 5-6 years back from Enbridge and I know how it feels like. Just don’t stare at the door too long that you don’t see the other door open. Just don’t blame yourself and your ability. You r just fine as you r. Any emotions that you go through it now just take it the way it is. It is perfectly normal to feel the way you feel now. Don’t despair. This is not end of the world. Just take a break for now. Let your feelings sink in. But just tell youself that this is OK and it’s OK to feel the way you felt or feeling. Just don’t let it drain more energy out of you. And then once you r settled , you can think about the option. Take care of your finances first. Any penny saved is a penny gained. I did not realize how much I have been spending on things that wasn’t necessasey. In fact , telus even give me a discount on my security package that I had which I could not cut off due to commitment for 2 years, due to my lay off. Take it easy my friend. I have gone through it and it’s not easy but it’s Ok not to feel easy.

As odd as it sounds it’s kind of nice to hear that I’m not alone. I was laid off yesterday too. Still in shock and not sure what to do with myself or where to go from here. I’ve been struggling for the last year and wasn’t expecting this.

Howdy!
Former people leader here, I got the ax yesterday as well.
The only thing I'll miss is my people! The team I got to lead over the past 6 years was simply outstanding and together we did great things. I will miss that.
I'm sorry that ENB never really bought in to the changes we were trying to drive forward in MML. And I'm sorry that our senior management in SCM doesn't have the experience to set strategy, and wouldn't consult with any of the mid level, very experienced folks at their disposal. They simply don't know what good looks like.
I wish everyone all the best. I enjoyed my time at Enbridge, I just wish it hadn't ended the way it has. And to my former team: Stay Strong! You guys, and Gals, are the best! Everything will work out.

I’m in the very same boat. It seemed so surreal when it happened. I don’t think I really heard a thing HR told me. I was pretty numb for the rest of the day and now the shock is coming off and I’m just left with worry and depression now.

It’s been a very tough few years for me, so this has really come at a bad time. I really hope everyone makes it through this ok and leads to bigger and better things!

You’re not alone. Some people who wanted to get laid off still gets shock.

It’s a big change and it’s normal to feel surreal to go through this kind of change. Take some time to process and gather your thoughts before jumping into job hunting. Just get your resume prepared but you don’t have to apply for jobs tonight.
