Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

What we need is more strategy. And more people to work on it.

sales strategy.
tech strategy.
field strategy.
data strategy.
financial strategy.
hr strategy.

take a look around the org chart or read one of those emails announcing a reorg. you’ll see all sorts of people engaged in some sort of strategy or another. if anybody was any good at strategy we’d be a company that people want to work at that was making enough money to not lay people off all the time.

if your job has the word strategy in it or you’re in one of the 50 groups that are in charge of determine a strategy, you’re no good at it.

less strategy. more work.

Innovation is good but that group is not. What they have put out is not available and needs to be entirely rebuilt in Product.

If you actually talk to FRs, which you clearly don’t despite this little weird FR roleplay you just created, you’d know they actually think we underinvest in our capabilities and want more innovation.

Involving FR's is a great idea as they are one of the few voices that is still heard in the company. Let them know how much Uncle Fester and others are wasting.

a related group is the innovation team lead by uncle fester and lead by the latest self described innovation expert in nyc. the cost of that group is outrageous. so outrageous that ive had a discussion with my FR about the tremendous waste of money it is. he had no idea and was absolutely livid about it. it was easy to show him the scale of it as its easy to see the spend on that team via external job posts. money that could have been spent to support the FRs is instead being wasted on a team that has little understanding of what the company actually does. the last i heard they were working on bitcoin. and blockchain. and vr. my fr is taking this to the field leadership group next month. its time to shut that idiocy down.

best part is - there's entire divisions dedicated to "strategy" and making "good decisions". they've done fu---d up for the last 6-8 years consistently.
