They transferred me into plumbing without my consent. I know nothing about any of it and neither does anyone else in the store apparently, since I asked after I was told I was going to be sent there "who is going to train me with plumbing so I don't flood someones house by giving them bad advice" and they said there is no one to train me. This is absurd, how can a company this size not have people working in these departments who know how to do this stuff. I was told by a different DS that the previous associate(who I guess I'm the replacement for) quit because he got tired of the abuse from customers because he didn't know how to help them either. I am quitting next week, got a new job lined up already.

You have my sympathy. I interviewed a few days ago for part time work and they rejected me.
Possibly because I was not willing to work in garden department. They did claim they would train me in various departments which sounds now like they would have done the same to me.
Wasn’t willing to work outside in the Summer and lifting heavy bags of soil and gravel. I’m 70 and retired and won’t put up with that cr-p.
Retail jobs just sound like he-l in general and never worked retail in my life.
Way way back in the day non electrical pro employees weren’t allowed to give electrical advice.Even had a sign up.i knew a little from shop class in high school…. one customer wanted to use a double pole 100 amp breaker for lighting circuit.Would’ve burnt the place down.Jesus. what if someone gives bad advice and a place floods or burns?
Blowes don't give a ......, so I don't give a ......
We lost our plumbing expert when he found out the starting pay for the new hires who were mostly 18-20 year olds, but even the older ones know nothing. He went to the store manager and said he needed a hefty pay increase, since the new hires were being paid about $20 an hour give or take. SM basically says he'll see what he can do. Couple days latter employee asks SM what's up with the pay increase and SM says he can't do anything. Several days latter that employee just ghosts.
No one at this store can help customers at even the basic level with plumbing or electrical work. The turn over rate in those departments are insane. The customers yell at the managers because there is no one to help them. When the associate/manager tells the customer they will check the computer for the answer the customers get furious. They expect someone who KNOWS the answer because that was the case for years here. We lose business daily because of it, and I have been told by contractors I used to see in here on a daily basis they only shop here now if they are close by and in a rush.
Customer service is at an all time low under this current "leadership". They have made it very clear they do not value the customers or the associates.
Melvin, Small Hands, and Billy Sears want to run Lowes like a 7-11. All self service with one person to open the doors and appear to work there -- part time at minimum wage. With sales dropping like a rock and "merchants" who know less than we do about our products, the cuts a' gonna keep comin'. Get out as soon as u can find ANYTHING else.
I’m not even going to pretend to be shocked by this.
Lowe’s decided a few years ago that it no longer wanted to pay for people who have knowledge. They decided that they could take anyone, give them a couple of computer courses and that was good enough. It was much more important that they keep wages down than that they have associates who have real know how.
They got rid of the Plumbing and Electrical Pro position and just filled it with any old high schooler that they could find. Now they spend their time screaming at the stores to get their LTR scores up and the managers spend their time faking their survey responses. That’s what we call superior customer service now.
Lowe’s is a f*cking mess.
Glad to hear you have another role lined up! The SM should have you shadow someone / train with someone at another Lowe’s store. Is that an option (if you are up to learning, of course)?
Most customers figure it out themselves you just have to talk in circles.
Yeah don't sweat it - no pun intended. Melvin got rid of the plumbing pro's when I worked there. You don't give any advise on the plumbing problems customers have. Not your job. Tell them to hire a plumber.
This is what Melvin wants, customers to figure it out themselves. It's much cheaper for him this way. What could go wrong?
Hey man, I worked for big box hardware store that shall not be named.
I was in electrical. My buddy was in plumbing. He had no idea about anything plumbing related. When a customer came walking down the plumbing aisles he was on, he'd pull up his wrists back up to his chest and walk with a gimp and keep his head angled sideways. Nobody would want to bother the "handicapped" plumbing associate with questions. Try it!
