Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Teradata Cloud Migrations > Major Step Towards Moving Off Teradata

Teradata's cloud strategy is a death march since once customers break free from Teradata on-prem jail and move their data into AWS, Google, or Microsoft storage layers, these customers are one step away from turning off Vantage and pointing Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, or Azure to that data. This is already happening. Once the industry analysts figure this out the stock will drop even faster. No customer has long-term plans to stay married to this legacy technology.

Teradata's cloud strategy is a death march

Do you think there's another way we can approach this? Right now, it seems like this is the only path forward.

Why migrate off Teradata? I know they are a legacy company, expensive, fell out of Gartner MQ leaders quadrant, are not growing, don't have a diversified strategy outside of data warehousing, and are under investigation for misleading investors but they do have a diversified ELT.

Well, on-prem too my friend. With all the automated tooling it is only a matter of months to migrate off of on-prem Teradata systems. Nearly all the BTEQ scripts, DDL, SQL and such can be automatically rewritten with these modern migration tools. The tools can do 80-90% of the conversion for you. Don't tell anyone.
