Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

You know what would reduced layoffs?

If we stopped hiring all the time. Every year we overhire, then layoffs happen. There have been very few hiring freezes lately, and even those were short and didn't apply to everybody. If the goal is to reduce the overall number of employees, that it would be logical to stop adding more people all the time, right?

You overhire knowing you’ll cut the bottom 10-15% on a regular basis. It’s pretty simple-there is alot of under-performing deadwood at Dull. #sweatshop

Hiring isn't the problem. It's greed. These companies don't think they can have enough money and it'll never end. They don't care about people, they care about stock prices. The money is there but it'll never be enough bc spending any of it might drop their stock prices a bit and CEOs may not be able to give themselves another 2 million the next year if they worry whether or not we can eat.

We hire the wrong people for the wrong job, and we keep the wrong people in those jobs. There are some FANTASTIC employees in Dell who are pigeonholed incorrectly, just encourage them to move sideways without fear and optimize the workload.

Best place to hire TSR's and ISR's? Support desk. Those guys take calls all day from angry customers and know what to do to make them happy. They know the tech and arent afraid to call people.

We need talent. Just recycling the shell shocked least competent who got stuck or somehow survived layoffs because they happened to be in the right city or right department is not going to help us compete. We can’t innovate with only juniors.

I don't know which group you are a part of. In my group we have been on an effectively hiring freeze since 2020. The only new hires are University relations (former interns) and management. Not regular personnel.
