Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Macy's will go the way of Sears within the next 5 years

Nothing can be done to prevent this at this point.

People said the exact same thing five years ago and we're still doing just fine. This site is so dramatic sometimes.

Macy's is targeting the lower income customer in some stores. Getting rid of designer brands and bring in more private brands. Calvin Klein dresses are going away. focus is more on private brands that sell. Read the articles out there. Lower price retail stores are the ones that are reporting higher profits..like Target and Walmart. Now as for the smaller stores those might be targeting the higher end customer.

I worked at Sears and now at Macy's. Macy's defintley has it's problems but in no way is it in the same shape Sears was. Macy's will be bought, underperforming stores will close, maybe some really good stores will be sold for quick real estate cash, and the focus will be Macy's stores in higher income and traffic areas. Online will also take on a bigger presence. Macy's isn't going anywhere, just reorganizing and getting smaller.

This is such an over the top reactionary statement. Macy's is still profitable. That being said...if private equity did find a way to buy out the company - all bets are off...

Such a brave and bold statement from someone who wants to celebrate the decimation of jobs. I bet you think all problems stem from the failure of department stores that didn't make it out of the 90s. Hope you feel great about yourself!

Five years is too optimistic.
