Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

April Promotions

I take it they aren’t happening? Is there even a point in staying on this sinking ship?

@2ena+1rcVWymY Damn straight. The company has failed its employees and the students we are supposed to serve over and over and over again. Many of us cared about our mission and we have every right to "bash the employer" when c-suite (led by Chip) created the hole 2U is in through their selfish decision making. They basically acquired some of our companies to strip them for parts and line their pockets. If you're too docile to question and challenge leadership when it's failing, take your sycophantic rambling elsewhere. Employees who roll over are just as much a problem as the leaders who expect them to.

The more time I spend on this board the more I realize how many cancers there are w/in the company that love to blame others and bash their employer but have enough value in the open market to go anywhere else. The company would be better off purging a lot of the staff and keeping those who are motivated and driven.

Lol okay. You all are just jealous that I'm getting promoted. Just work harder. Maybe you would get promoted too if you weren't always complaining on this site.

No offense, but are you kidding? This company is going under, literally firing hundreds of people every quarter and you think there are going to be promotions right now? Come on dude, wake up. The only way would be if you’re one of chips og good ol boys, which you’re not cause those guys don’t have to ask. And to all the people that are miserable and burnt out, I get it, I do, but also get the f out of this place already. Like seriously, what are you waiting for? An invitation to leave? This place will never be what it was and it won’t get any better than it was yesterday so do yourself a favor and start applying to jobs at other places ans stop complaining and wondering “what ifs” here. Come on, jeeze.

@lgs+1rcVWymY I’d go back to your manager and check again. We are still waiting to hear on if there are funds for promotions. Your manager saying you are ready to be nominated for a promotion is v different than actually getting one. Even when funds are available, managers in SE (degree at least) can’t promote on their own- there is a lengthy calibration process with directors, vps and svps for approval of a promotion.

My manager told me I'm getting promoted. I'm an AC II

@upf+1rcVWymY That’s not quite accurate, buildings are expensive to lease or own, WFH isn’t going anywhere and companies will always find a way to out source for cheaper. This is capitalism not charity work, they do not care about our lives, if they can save money they’ll do it.

Hoping for a promotion at this place is like hoping the captain of the Hindenburg gives you the wheel. Get out.

I feel so trapped here. Applying like crazy with no response or automatic deny. There’s no promotion/raise/bonus to really be excited about or look forward to. I’m currently in therapy because of this company.

I would guess any new hires in the US would be at Lanham HQ and remote employees will be phased out over time through attrition. Some of those would be replaced at HQ and some would be moved offshore. The downside of WFH has always been that if you're not in the office you're more easily replaced overseas at a fraction of the cost.

There are 3 senior level positions and a chief level position on greenhouse I’m assuming those people left for better pastures

If this company doesn’t completely go under, I would be surprised if they kept many of the people in the US. Many have been saying offshoring is coming, 2U already has international employees and relationships, it’s not like the switch would be that hard, they would probably just need to decide how much more obvious they want to make it to students that the person calling them is not even in the US, let alone not an employee of (prestigious university name here).

No. Seriously you should be looking for jobs. The best time to find one is while you're still getting paid so you hopefully land something before you're laid off or the company goes under.
