Which map ratings are usually laid off? 2’s and 1’s? Can 3’s apply for a req on another team? Or do you have to be 4 or 5? Is it true that your first year on a new team, they have to rate you a 3, regardless of your performance?

It all depends on whether your manager feels intimidated or threatened by your knowledge. If your manager doesn't like you, you will be gone even if your get 5's.
At this point, I don't think your MAP ratings will be the impetus for laying people off. It looks like they have bigger issues at hand. Your employer is currently bleeding cash due to the Cyberattack and it's only just begun. They have teams of external consultants and engineers to rebuild all the systems and all of the profiles of anyone not yet on the UHG systems, they likely have PR companies to help reduce the massive amount of reputational harm this incident caused. They will also need an abundance of external law firms to help them with the barrage of government inquiries headed their way, not to mention the class action lawsuits being filed. All of these things will cost an enormous amount of money (they have it).
Layoffs will likely happen in abundance and affect a lot of people regardless of MAP score; it will just be dollars and cents at this point.
I went from a map=5 to map=4 this year. My workload and responsibilities only went up since last year. Someone else was due to get a 5 and there are only so many 5's allowed. It depends just as much on what is happening around you as it does on your actual performance. It's a terrible, motivation-ki-ling system.
If you aren't a 4 or 5, they generally see you as trash. 3 you might get another year to improve, but 2s get fired and 1's probably don't make it that far.
I hope to be laid off as a 3, meets expectations is good enough. There is no amount of mouthwash that can remove the taste from the amount of sh-t I put up with from my disgusting boss.
It is obvious this company has no interest in actually improving the management level. My boss would have been removed at least 2 years ago. It's not up to me to quit. I don't hate my work, my coworkers, I hate my stupid boss. So I guess rating me a meets expectations is good enough. I refuse to do anymore than average work till they get rid of me, or God willing, I move to new team. It is hard to choke back my productivity, but I won't let others shine off my hard work when they are no better than a smelly tu-d.
I dropped to a 4 on my review this year. My boss told me they weren’t allowed to give out any 5s on the team this year, and m colleagues are all sitting on lower scores.
One of my friends got a 3 (has always received 4s and 5s) and her boss told her that he was forced to give out a bunch of 1s and 2s this year. It’s artificial lowering, in hopes to increase reductions in force.
I was a 5 and got laid off. It’s all about favoritism, numbers games, etc. literally no rhyme or reason.
If you received a '1' or '2' rating, your manager is responsible for putting you on a CAP immediately. If your overall rating is a '3', while there's still time, it's wise to update your resume and proactively search for new opportunities. the 4's and 5's are either true high performers, or friends of the regime. All 1,2,3s are being replaced by offshore resources.
If you are an overall 3 you can still apply for another job.start looking if there’s a two in there somewhere because they don’t like the color of your shoes and it will only get worse. There’s no hope for improvement.
Lowest number usually goes but it depends. If they’re required to let a certain number of people go then it’s just whoever’s lowest on the totem pole no matter the rating or it could be on who may be overly compensated/high on the pay range. A rating of 1 you’re almost guaranteed to be cut. 2 is also fairly certain unless your leader is able to advocate a lot for you, higher ups are receptive to it and your group has enough funding. They may try a pip as proof to keep you but the opposite is likely in that they’ll use it as evidence against you meeting some crazy expectations and cut you as well.
It's all a numbers game - the bonuses and RRP percentages.
There is ONE goal, people to resign so they don't have to give a severance package.
It's cheaper than a layoff so they do this to make people unhappy in hopes that they will leave and that will save money - - that is the bottom line.
It does not matter. Nothing is right. Even the worst performance are staying with a 3 review.
I was laid iff today and I was rated a 3.
The only thing you can trust in this company, is that you can’t trust anyone.
Anyone can be laid off. As a manager, sometimes I’ve been tasked with getting rid of low performers and on the other hand, I’ve been asked to target higher salaries.
With respect to rating system: the one year rule wasn’t in place until recently. Some groups are using two years. It’s such a cheap cop out to save money on RRP and the cr-ppy raises.
