Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Quiet Firing

I totally think this is happening to me right now. I don't know if I am going to be a part of the layoffs or not. I feel super undervalued and this blog article unfortunately ticks off 100% of the things discussed. If I don't get let go in the next group of layoffs is mobility even worth it at this point?

I'm kind of desensitized to everything right now. What really matters in the grand scheme of things? Projects and funding are on hold. Jane got a huge freaking raised while others got laid off or got 3-valued contributor after working their butts off.

I'm doing just a little as possible and minimizing my time around others. Who cares what anyone things of me at this point. My manager is crazy, doesn't listen, and pulls a Casper several days a week. So guess what? You get no extra anything out of me anymore. This is what you get when you cr-p on people. Working here isn't a career. It's unfortunately just a stupid circus.

Post ID: @hlv+1rcE2D71 This happened to me before I was laid off My group was on a zoom call and my manager mentioned my coworker being on an important call that I should’ve been on as well. You had to see the look on her face when I asked why I wasn’t invited as it’s part of my job She looked flustered and said oh, I will invite you next time. Then a few weeks later, when I mentioned it again , she said there was never a call. That should’ve been my clue to me being let go. A few months later, that’s what happened. I still laugh when I think how uncomfortable she looked when I called her out on it. She had that same uncomfortable look on her face when she laid me off.

Citi Managers use this tactic when they have no valid reason to fire you (usually because they don't like you, or you don't fit, they are over or nearing budget or they are trying to make room for a friend. Citi is very clicky and managers of people know HR is nearly non existent except for recruiting and don't care.

They ignore you, ostracize you from the teams, withhold information that should trickle down, "forget" to add you to meetings", and schedule 1:1s weekly that they never show up for or cancel at the last minute hoping to use it to set a case for a PIP.
It's abuse and until people speak up or take legal action they will continue to use these tactics because they want to break you so that you leave and it works!

quiet firing is real and it's a live and well at Citi. Cheaper than paying you severance.

A few years ago, a coworker of mine was promoted and I wasn’t even though for years we have always been at the same level, and I always got great reviews. I had a contentious call with my manager. I told her all I accomplished and no matter what I said it wasn’t good enough. Finally, I said to her I’m not falling for the carrot or the stick. I knew at that point no matter what I did wouldn’t be enough. Then I did a little work as I could until I got laid off.

Don’t let them get you down. Be smart and play the game. Don’t let them force you to leave instead force them to lay you off. I used to be a conscientious employee, doing extra and going above and beyond after that conversation with my manager I consciously decided to not give a cr-p anymore, and to do the bare minimum. And to this day I have no regrets on how I handled any of that. Bottom line try not to take it to and if anything, make them pay severance

OP here. Thanks, @qmf+1rcE2D71. You're right. I'm trying to hang in there. It's just hard when you have skills, education and experience yet one is treated like garbage 5 days a week.
